So, yeah, I'm pretty much set on Upper Rez, although I don't know about Douglas Hall. Yes it does have its own caf, but other than that, is it worth paying one more grand?

I think not. It's not such a bother walking to the Caf (I lived in McConnell my first year). So that extra grand can be put to better use than role-playing Hogwarts every day.

As for friends, well, I confess I met my best friend in McConnell, and several other good people too.
At the same time, I also made some very close friends in Diocesan. In fact, a small Res encourages a close-knit community sentiment.

"Which is why last year a group of students stocked up on non-perishables (like bottled water) for their future apartments. Other ideas include laundry marathons and an enormous last breakfast."

Ugh, good to know this may influence me even more into a MORE house. I am a vegetarian and I am really picky, so basically at cafs I only eat breads or desert or a drink lol.

I read a few pages back that people weren't planning on moving in on the specific day, this is what it says when you accept and apply for rez:

"I understand that upon receipt of my deposit and confirmation of acceptance of this Agreement, McGill University will reserve a residence space for me until September 1, 2008. I understand that if I do not take occupancy by September 1, 2008 of the room reserved for me, McGill Residence Admissions Office shall be entitled to cancel my reservation and to charge the applicable cancellation fee"

get in there on time!

mcgillguy, how did you like McConnell in your first year? Were you able to study still in upper rez without distraction?
Are you moving out to an apartment next year? How hard is househunting/finding roommates, etc?
And how common is it that you stay in residence for your upper years?
(Excuse my bombardment of questions razz)

heythereb, I didn't realize Douglas was that much more expensive. But it's so pretttyyy and the grand piano in their common room looks yummy. I think Gardner or Molson is my first choice now. geez, I'm so fickle.

Maybe. After talking to a lot of current McGill students, most suggest going for Douglas. It offers a nice environment, great parties, a caf, and a small library. '

To be honest I didn't get the great feedback regarding Garden, Molson and McConnell confused

Dio was also highly recommend for it's proximity to Campus and Greenbriar if your into cooking for yourself and want an Apartment Style.

Well, I think the most important thing to know is that BMH and Douglas are all fairly similar in terms of room size, and Douglas has its own caf. The types of people that get placed there vary year by year so you can only base your decision based on what is likely to stay the same.

thanks for the links, tmhlee - yeah, I did a 180 in the space of like 3 days. Haha. Hopefully I stick with my decision. Seems like Upper Rez would be more fun, since there's a bigger chance you'll get along with your floor mates/hall mates as there's more of them.

Lol.
New order:
1. Molson Single
2. Gardner Single
3. Douglas Single
4. McConnell single
5. MORE single
6. New Rez double

Anyone know if Upper Rez has a piano? And which one doesn't have an elevator or something? Gardner? Would be killer on move-in day...

Hah. my new order

1. Molson single
2. Gardner single
3. Douglas single
4. Douglas double
5. McConnell single

What three words did you put for the survey? Mine were
outgoing, fun, adventurous

These types of things are so awkward to think up.

I know Gardner doesn't have an elevator, because when I went up there for the open house, the guy showed us his room, which was on the highest floor and we had to trek up like 7 flights of stairs.

Guys, I don't think I'm going to McGill anymore...

But theoretically:

1. New Rez
2. MORE single
3. MORE double
4. Greenbriar single
5. Douglas single
6. Dio? (not sure because I have never been there)

How easy is it to transfer to McGill second year?
Considering that my grades will be very bad coming out of Uft.

So how are you guys answering the survey they give you?
I want to make sure to put the exact opposite answers, so I don't get stuck living with a bunch of nerds.

I don't get why you put New Rez as your first choice when, based on your other choices, it looks like you want apartment-style living and cooking for yourself?

I do. But I fell in love with New Rez when I went there. I am pretty sure that its the nicest rez in Canada, so I couldn't pass up the oppurtunity. I just don't want to end up with a typical, university, dorm style rez. Those are too crowded seeming for me. New Rez is a hotel, very luxury smile

I fell in love with new rez too, when I visited. I really dreaded the idea of having a roommate, but my complaints about sharing a room disappeared when I saw all the luxury, haha.

@ slacker - yeah, I really didn't know how to fill out the questionnaire. Do they put you with people whose questionnaires are identical to yours, or opposite? I mean, I'm pretty average when it comes to listening to music/cleanliness. I want the same of my floor mates, it looks like. I really don't want anyone on the opposing spectrums, like someone who thinks their floor is a giant garbage can or someone is freaking out if they're not scrubbing their room down (I'm thinking these people are pretty rare but you never know).
