Srry, first year Engineering is essentially first year Science. I took all my courses, except like 2 with science students. I worked really hard in highschool, as in I did non mandatory homework questions on a daily basis, read ahead, studyed 2 1/2 weeks in advance for exams and tests. Here, I go to class, reread notes when i get home, do the mandatory weekly/biweekly labs/assignments and study AT MOST a a week and half in advance for exams. I remember that I, along with ALOT of other students, got in maybe a good 2 days of studying for a chem final because we had back to back exams the days before it. Time management is so important, because there will be times when you have alot of work but you feel like you can just loaft around. Also the beauty of mcgill, or at least first year, is that weeky/biweekly assignments and labs, or even a couple of essays, can account for maybe 30-40% of your final grade. If you manoeveur your way through the semester properly you can afford to do relatively poorly on the final.

Oooh. strategy. I guess this is all really relative and juiced I think you still have amazing work ethic. I'm one to study for tests/exams the night of/morning of... and have been getting through fine til as of late. I know this won't work in university and hopefully I can figure something out with time management etc... do you still get time to go out and stuff?

do you still get time to go out and stuff? In university you have alot of free time. I personally limitted myself to thursdays(tokyo thursdays) and fridays for "going out", although getting drunk for the hell of it on any other day while watching sports in the common room or doing completely random things were not uncommon for me either.

I am pretty relieved to hear that. What's tokyo thursdays? Do you mean the bar ? And what are some popular hang out spots for mcgill students? Do they tend to congregate or mingle with other university students? (I hear concordia population is hotter.. haha)

Yeah, I'm worried about time, too. I mean, I'll probably have classes from roughly 12 to 4 every day. And then I'll probably have to work, for shizzle, and any of those are like 10 hours per week. Then with reading, and "essay weeks," I hope that I juggle both school and fun.
And forgive me if this is a total misconception - but isn't a big portion of Concordia those slacker students who want to live in a big city, but have no shot in hell at attending McGill? I know one girl I know is going to Concordia for Theatre, and the reason she didn't want to go to McGill (assuming she'd ever be accepted) was because she wanted to have fun during undergrad and not work all the time (she was applying to the Ed program by the way).

Hahaha. Well i dunno, a lot of concordia kids are commuters from around montreal, etc from what i understand. Their overal cut off averages are lower than mcgill, but just cause it's a new school in comparison and mcgill has amazing reputation, .'. higher quality applicant pool Apparently though concordia's business school.. (john molson school of b) is better than mcgill management? Ie. their cut offs are actually higher? doesn't necessarily mean everyone at concordia are stupid. but I guess that is probably the trend... they wanna slack.. but less focus on academics does usually lead to better looks. hence hotter boys and girls. I'm up for that. Meh. I got a friend going into kinesiology/arts minor at concordia. we gonna party it up in mtllll. Btw i have decided to go to mcgill again! i am crazy. But happy. i'm so coherent. I'm gonna try to take fine arts courses at concordia and transfer credits to mcgill I hope I can do that? I know it works the other way around.

That's cool. Did you officially accept or are you set on a few more back-and-forth's before May 28th? Today I got really excited for Frosh. It's going to be so awesome. Plus, a lot of people at my school who applied to McGill and got in, aren't going ( ). Apparently it's a distance/expensive rez thing. And thsi one girl really wanted to go, and I felt kind of bad for her because apparently her parents want her to stay in Toronto to eliminate the 9 grand rez expense. Makes me really glad that my parents are really just like "go wherever you want and study whatever you want"

No I really really want to/will accept tonight to get it out of my system. that's awesome/ really fortunate for you. Not so much for your friend.. but at least she gets to save like 40grand. My mom was pretty iffy about it because it is kinda far. She was all, "if something happens to you you won't be able to come home, i'm worried, etc" But my parents want me to go whereever I feel is the best for me as well. Pretty grateful <3 I have one friend who doesn't know where she wants to go, but her parents are pushing McGill so she's going to make them proud lmao. They don't like the $$$ of rez either though. She may find off campus housing. I've got another girlfriend who's probably going too. She wants to room with me but I want a single =\ Not too many applied.. another girl I know who got in.. I think she's going to UWO, but she hasn't decided for sure yet.

Yeah, I visited Queen's and McGill with my parents. And with Queen's neither of them was impressed, because we drove through a part of Kingston and it looked like some third world town. And there was major construction everywhere. I don't know, it didn't feel like I would ever go there.
And then we visited McGill for the Open House (it was the worst night ever - we have to wait in the car for an hour because we got to some Quebec part just outside of MOntreal at like 5 in the morning). Surprisingly I did not sick. And even though it was freezing (I totally got into the whole spirit of Montreal and wore three layers of clothes plus my jacket), they were really impressed and generally the consensus was "This is a real school!"
I don't know - maybe it's just snobbery on my part, but there are only a few schools that are even remotely selective. And my friend and I were talking about how a lot of our friends are going to Guelph next year, and it was just like "Guelph? Really?"

your school too? Seriously i swear atleast 60% of our graduating class is headed to guelph! I know a lot of my friends from other schools are also saying many of their fellow gr 12ers are headed to guelph. What's happening?!? I didn't even consider it. Lol Like last year I think only 4 people from our school went there out of like 400~500

About kingston, yes, a lot of it looks worn down and stuff. I've been there enough over the past summers/weekends to know where the really nice parts are though. Aside from the construction, I thought the campus was actually nicer than McGill. Am i crazy? Like the buildings were cleaner, whiter, more conformed I guess.. a representation of their student population. hahaha. Jk. McGill was still pretty. Dirtier, older buildings, looking kinda worn down but meh. Amazing location <3 Gosh I am excited all over again.

LOL I know soo many people going to Guelph to! Never heard of it until this year!
I'm extremely excited for this experience, but I don't want to mess up on my residence selection, I mean that is where I will meet the majority of my friends?
arghhh
Do you guys know if New Res is in close proximity to Downtown, like St. Catherine's Street? I heard MORE Houses are in a great location and Douglas is the most social! Best parties apparently

I don't know how that works. I sort of lumped Waterloo, Guelph, and Carleton together and never thought about them again. I knew McGill was my definite number 1, and after hasty browsing of Waterloo and Guelph Arts course selection, i wasn't really impressed. So yeah, I just found on my exam schedule, and obviously, it only the worst thing ever, because obviously there is no way that I can graduate in a decent fashion. I have an exam on the friday of the first exam week, and then the monday of the second week. And I also have a 6 hour bartending class on the sunday between those 2 exams. Oh, and I have a kines exam tomorrow, and I haven't started studying because it's stupid and I can't force myself. By the way, have you guys experienced any cultural withdrawl with all this worrying about uni/studying thing? I honestly can't even remember the last time I've read a book, and I've been trudging through Poisonwood Bible for a month or so before finally giving up and returning it to the library. And this is the first week I'm actually listening to some new music instead of the radio Top 40 crap. I don't know, I've been worried about school and all this retardation for so long, I don't even know where to start finding some new tunes. Although I've been replaying Down by the River by Neil Young constantly these past 2 days. Anyway, rant over.

Hahah. I was expecting a totally white student population, but there were some minorities around. Hmm, that was a weird sentence. But yeah, personally that is kind of off-putting for me. That's what I like about McGill - lots of int'l students = different cultures, different races, etc.
About rez - I don't really know how to chose rez beyond listing Upper Rez as my choices. It differs each year, guys. To say that Douglas has the best parties really depends on the parties thrown by Douglas rezzies on that particular year.
New Rez is like 5 blocks away from McGill, and McGill is right downtown so yeah, New Rez is a fairly good location in terms of proximity of DT.

DAVE BRUBECK COMING TO TORONTOOO YAYYY is all i can think about in terms of music. I really want to see Stars but they are playing with death cab and the ticket price is ridiculous. But gosh i feel so liberated. hahhaaa. i got concerts lined up all summer. Any of you think montreal scene is pretty darn cool? (and omg. please don't take me for some indie hipster. ) I am loving 'artist of the year'. <3 I'm gonna have a blast in montreal. Ohhh other key thing about McGill>queens. No one tours in kingston. I'd have to travel 2 hours each time to see someone play live unless the school invited a specific band over. boo. I haven't read a book on my own time for so long... I've got Brick Lane sitting on my desk.. haven't gotten far. Schools killa. I will read like crazy over the summer heythereb; exams? .. :S... already? You got a pretty stressful schedule. g'luck. you can make it through. Just keep thinking forward! After you aer through you are gonna be at MCGILL!!

Wow i like smilies... I heard douglas is really good for parties, etc. (oh god.. hogwarts-look alike. I think i might pick douglas for first choice.. lmao.) But I've also heard they are kind of secluded from the rest of the people, ie. upper rezs Liek they are their own thing? personally I find it so beautiful. I will try to snag some friends living there and take over their dorms. lmao. New rez is closer to st. laurent..i guess.. st. catherine.. the shopping district is more south.. so it's closer if you are at RVC. like 2/3 blocks down. either way, everythign's pretty close.. actually maybe except for BMH caues they're way up the hill... hmm. (I like how we are back on the thread topic)

Oh yeah. Basically, some teachers are having exams in may (these are more my joke classes) so not stress us during the exam period. I've already written the Politics ones (should get it back tomorrow) and the first kines exam is tomorrow (actually only 3 chapters, waaay easy).
I'm going to be in Montreal for the summer, though, so I'll probably hit up a lot of concerts!!!!!! I can't wait. Honestly, I'm just looking at this whole graduating HS thing as the start of my 'real' life. I mean, adult, in Montreal, amazing night life, sooo much to do, in one of the best unis in Canada, among people my age - I mean, at this point, how does this NOT spell awesome about a thousand times over?

btw, martin, you will probably make plenty of friends aside from rez. join clubs, talk to people in class, libraries, frosh week, just whereever, etc. And you should be fine. I mean, your group of friends isn't going to be limited to just your own rez.
