McGill FTMFW! heythereb: do you know many people going to Molson? *Also, am I the only one that's getting freaked out with how much debt I will have by the end of it???!!! Like 1st year is going to cost Ontario students between $17,000 to $21,000 w/ Tuition, Res, and Meal Plan I really don't want $60,000 - $70,000 of debt when I graduate!! Ughhh

No, I actually don't know anyone personally who's going to Molson. I just read the thread about Molson on the Facebook McGill group.

Ohhh yeah. Don't forget the transportation cost there and back for holidays too I think with VIA rail from TO to Montreal is actually pretty cheap. I love thinking about how much undergrad + grad + possibly professional school is gonna cost in the next few years. <3

I have no clue. I want to change my first name, though. No one calls me by my full name, and it's bugging me to have it as my email.
by the way, did you check your Finaid status? I checked mine yesterday and it said that they needed some more info and to check my McGill account. I was actually surprised by how fast they got back to me. I think I applied on Friday. So fingers crossed.
Do you think they take into consideration how much you ask for? Or if they think you asked for too much, do they give you less to spite you? I hope I get something. Because 0 scholarshhips + 0 Financial aid = financial death

OK, so I just want to take the time to profess my love for the Financial Aid email people. I sent an email with a question and they got back to me literally 3 minutes later.

I'm pretty positive that you do, otherwise you wouldn't really be @mail.mcgill, right?

Hmm. Wow, 'shucks'... I like how the words are sensored on this forum. I'm sure they'll get back to you really soon once they have whatever they needed! I applied Friday as well. They are super fast, I'm really surprised. Especially since the application process took so long and they are rumoured to be the worst adminstration people ever.

tmhlee wrote:mcgillguy, how did you like McConnell in your first year? Were you able to study still in upper rez without distraction? Are you moving out to an apartment next year? How hard is househunting/finding roommates, etc? And how common is it that you stay in residence for your upper years? (Excuse my bombardment of questions ) 1. McConnell was noisy, ill-designed, and far too far from the campus. Amongst other things, you couldn't just nip down to the library. On the weekend, large crowds left for bar-crawling around midnight and returned around 3, which was bad if you weren't fully asleep. Oh and, five or six false fire alarms that went off at the most inopportune moments. I do hope they've fixed those. 2. I'm moving into Diocesan, having dodged the entire apartment issue now three years in a row. As far as I know, it's fairly easy if you are ready to put some hours into it. Expect walking. The Student Housing Office is your firewall to unscrupulous landlords. 3. Not very.

dude why have you been avoiding getting an apartment? i have this theory that the people who are in their second and third years who are still in rez are basically people who were to lazy to get roomates. Apartments are soooooo much cheaper than rez. Apartment hunting is definately another one of those mcgill things that are somewhat of a treat to experience aswell, thats my opinion anyway.

Incorrect theory. I am not too lazy to get room-mates ... I just prefer solitude. Besides, it's far better to not have to waste time cooking and haggling with landlords. I know common wisdom says apartments are cheaper, but a closer look revealed the difference to be negligible. Also, McGill is probably the only NA university in its class to not provide residences to all its students. It's not a treat ... it's dereliction of duty on McGill's part.

Hey, what have you heard about Douglas Hall? Any residences in particular your friends wished they had in first year, after seeing and experiencing residence? Which res. has the most fun?

by the way, tmhlee, I read your post in the cell phone thread.
I'm looking into Koodo. For 25 a month, you get 100 anytime minutes, unlimited Evenings and Weekends and unlimiited texts. This is waaay better than a lot of the other providers. I know with Fido and Telus, you'll be looking at minumum of 35 a month for that. The only thing that sucks is you have a buy a cell phone from Koodo and so far they only have three models, and I don't like any of them.
By the way, you can have Across Canada plan, but that obviously costs way more.

Which res. has the most fun? Yes, I lived a few metres from it for eight months. I think the MORE houses were definitely in demand, and we do wish we'd had Diocesan in our first year. Fun is relative. Smaller residences happen to have smaller, more understanding, respectful and considerate communities, so it is there that everyone is likely to be able to have fun in their own way.

bahhh, now I feel like putting MORE as my first choice again I see Koodo ads everywhere. I'll have to check it out, thanks. I know SPC also has this add-on plan. the company is called myunlimited. You pick whatever provider at minimum cost, and then add the feature to it (unlimited local, n. america, or world). Btw, I just found out one of my friends is coming to mcgill with meeee. Yayyy

Whaat? You're going to Mac?
Yeah, I'm pretty set on Upper Rez at this point. That might change. But I think the whole GPA drop is as true as you let be.
