I can't believe this! This is the most gutless thing and were they ever planning on telling us? I spoke to some of my local Ndp reps and they say it's mainly because they failed epically with the olympics budget. We all put so much work into the application!! Argh i'm so angry!!!!!

All bad policy comes in during the first two years, then the last two years they do everything decently and everyone forgets about the past. I hope you guys know that even if it was the NDP that ended up making the tuition freeze in 1996, and the Campbell's Liberals unfreezing it in 2001, the Premier at the time - Glen Clark, seriously screwed up - skewing budget numbers, bribery, wasting money on the ferry project, etc. You guys might hate Campbell for the unfreezing and now the cutting of the scholarship, but thinking about the larger picture is just as important. Either way, politics sure does seem like a dirty business....
nancywang1991 - could you please give us the "Program Lady's" phone number? I'd like to hear it from the horse's mouth, so to speak.
I, too, am extremely upset and angry about this decision and the way it has been handled (or mishandled).

Has anyone actually had anything formal in writing regarding the elimination of this award? I still can't believe the government actually did this.... here is an article of interest: http://www.bclocalnews.com/opinion/52385402.htmlI called the BC Government's Student Aid office last Wednesday (July 29) and talked to three people who didn't know anything about the award being cancelled. Then I was put onto a fourth person who said the decision to cut the program was made on Thursday, July 23, but I don't think that's true because that's the day the article appeared in the Vancouver Sun about all the cuts to student programs. I asked to speak to someone "higher up" to voice my displeasure and was told someone would call me back. No one ever did. I also contacted my MLA and have heard nothing back. I have subsequently written a letter to the Minister in charge and would urge you all to do the same: The Honourable Dr. Moira Stilwell Minister of Advanced Education & Labour Market Development Room 342 Parliament Buildings Victoria, BC V8V 1X4 I don't think we should let this go without at least a bit of a fight!!

^^ I don't know anything about this award and I'm not from BC, nor going there, but I just wanted to say good for you for standing up and trying to get answers and making a fuss about this. Even if they never bring the award back, you have a voice and you should use it. I think all of you who've been affected by this should pick up your phone and start writing letters both to the Minister and to your local newspapers and get your complaints out there. These things do matter, and you can effect change; this is the way to start. Now go make a fuss.

Eagle 1, I got an email confirmation stating "I regret to advise you that due to the current economic downturn the Premier’s Excellence Award (PEA) program is no longer available, including this year’s award." If you would like, the lady's e-mail address is SABC.SpecialPrograms3@gov.bc.ca . I don't know her phone number. I received a form letter which stated that the government has had to make some "difficult decisions" (seems to be a standard line, delivered in robotic form). I've been in touch with my MLA, who said he has written a letter to the Premier. There have been numerous articles in the media about this cut, which is great! See http://www.bclocalnews.com/tri_city_maple_ridge/tricitynews/news/52991142.htmlHas anyone else been in touch with their MLA? There was something about it on CTV (Vancouver) news tonight, about an Oak Bay High School student who had applied and was disappointed in the cut. It even showed her on her computer on this site (I spotted dark.avalon's name). Hopefully we can keep this story in the forefront and maybe even reverse the government's decision!!

They were trying to rid poverty, corruption, war, etc. which will never succeed unless communism comes into effect, which would be impossible due to capitalism and it's fundamental hatred of laziness which would be propagated by communism.
