Are you going to school for what you want to become and take on as a living, or what your parents want you to do?

My parents just want me to have a fair working job. When I told them I wanted to pursue something in History they asked "What kind of occupation will you go for?" I said teacher or professor then they eased up.

I'm going for myself. In the end, it's my life, but I do appreciate that my family supports me.

For me. I'm going for Studio Art, and at first they thoguht it was a bad idea because they think I won't be able to find a job, but I disagree with them. I told them I'm likely going into teaching after I get my BA, so it's all good. And if I don't want to teach there are tons of other artsy jobs out there for me. Also, with a BA you can explore so much, so I will have all sorts of doors opened for me. My family definitely supports me though, which is great.

my mom has always told me that i can do what i want. shes never said to me like i want you to be a doctor or a lawyer or anything, so im going to school for me. but at the same time, sometimes i think it wouldve been good to be pushed into something, at least then i could decide what i really want because i dont know and i ask her for her opinion and its just do what makes you happy and its hard.

I'm going for me. It's weird, I feel like I'm supposed to go into the program I am. I think I would feel out of place if I went into any other program. But after talking to many other students I find it amazing how many of them are pursuing their parents' goals, rather than their own.

I love art. I've never taken a class and am completely self taught. I got into Sheridan College for art fundamentals to help build my portfolio then I'm off to University. When I told my mom what I'm doing and what I've applied to, she was disapproving and kept trying to change my mind so I can have a more stable job. She wanted me to go into accounting (gr. 10 U ... 52%), which is definitely not for me. Now she supports me because she knows I'm stubborn just like her and it's what I want. The rest of my family is just glad I'm pursuing post-secondary education.

Definitely for me. My parents support me and want me to do whatever I truly want to do. Once they know what I want, they push me to achieve that goal, so that I don't go off track. But they don't push me to do what I don't want to do.

Hello! Of course I am going to school as a dietitian because I want to, not because my parents want me to. I have always followed my dreams. When I learned about health, exercise, I decided that I wanted to show people how to live healthy and this is because I feel great when others feel great about themselves.

Totally for me. Its something I'm interested and looking forward to.
In fact my dad was kind of in the same field and for the beginning part of my life that was why I didn't want anything to do with it (because he always told me the bad stories).

I'm definitely getting my BEd and BHK because it's what I want. My parent's don't care, as long as I'm happy

I'm doing it for me. I've wanted to study psychology for a few years now, and have a huge interest in the subject. My parents don't really get too involved, as long as I've got a good plan for the future they're fine with whatever I decide.

I am definitely going to school to do what I want, not what my parents want. They have always been supportive, and encourage me to do what I am passionate about. I plan to go to university and go into Criminal Justice and History. After university I hope to either go to law school, or teacher's college. Either way I am following my dreams, and I have a lot of support from my parents to do so.
