to be honest scholarships scare me to death. its like we try so hard to get the grades to get into a good school and then we have to try even harder to be able to afford it. that whole once your done highschool you just go to college is scary. i mean its not like going from grade school to highschool, you have to decide your life and if you screw up your out a bunch of money. i dont know how this helps. this wasnt very positive. sorry.

i completely agree.
I've spent so much of my time trying to get amazing grades throughout high school only to realize that the real battle is getting the money to go there.
Now I am unsure whether I should spend time on scholarships and let my grades slide slightly in order to spend more time on scholarships.
I've been accepted now and so it's fairly tempting..

to GordonKatie....I completely understand your thinking. Grade 12 can get so overwhelming with classes and then writing essays for scholarships and trying to make a decision about where to go but i don't think letting your grades slip is the answer. Consider entrance level scholarships that most universities offer. If you let your average drop a couple percentage points it could be the difference between $1000 or $2000. I know for myself sometimes I feel like all the work I've done in high school has been useless. I've put so much time and energy into my classes and I have yet to see the payoffs and at times I just feel like taking a break. But then my mom or my friends remind me that its not useless. Because of the work I've done I received early acceptance to all the universities I've applied to and I got an entrance scholarship of $3000 to one of them. I'm just trying to say that I know it gets stressful but if you are organized, break it down and plan what you are going to do for the day, the week, the month, it makes it managable.

When I first got into York I got the entrance scholarship $1000, but if you want to renew it next year, you need to maintain a average of A. (isn't it quite impossible?)

I'd say the easiest type of scholarships (in terms to application, communication, whjatnot) to get are those offered by your own university/provincial government.

I haven't had any scholarships at all! It is really depressing. Sometimes, it makes me feel less encouraged to apply even more. That's how I've felt lately.

However, my counsellor said that the worst thing that can happen is for the selection committee of any scholarship to just throw your application away. I guess that we'll just have to keep applying until we get some to help for our university studies!!! smile

Waiting on the world to change. ♥

So far, I applied to 10 scholarships and the only answer i seem to be getting is no. I worked so hard to finish writing the essays and forms on time that I'm getting frustrated. I guess it's all in the patience and that if I keep working hard, something good is going to happen. Right?

Some scholarships are just so hard to get the application process is a killer.
The best scholarships that are less competitive and bigger money are the ones offered by private companies/ organizations such as Burger King, Tim Hortons, BBBS, and etc. Make sure you ask around your parents' work places for any scholarships or bursaries, and if you have a part-time job, there may be chances that they offer scholarships as well.
