Writing all these essays can be pretty tedious but even if I were to win only one scholarship, the end product would be worth it to me. Anything is better than nothing and at least I can say I tried, right?

You know, it would be good for me to start writing some of these...
Although it totally doesn't help that i'm a pure math person and can't write for the life of me. Whenever I think about applying for the essay scholarships I think of the "humanities-brained" people who'll be applying versus me with my math brain... and I get really discouraged. I've read some of the winning essays for some of the scholarships, and there's no way on earth I'd be able to write anything of a similar quality.
Yar. So should I waste my time on something that will 99.999% not pay off in the least?
Schulich BBA 2012 UW Biotech/Econ or Mac HthSci under consideration...

Abdulkarim wrote:Some of the essays have a specific deadline to complete, most of them have about 3-4 months. Thats when I try to prepare as much Essays I can to win any of those scholarships. By the way most of the essay topics are quite similar. Some of them are pretty much the same questions, too! Waiting on the world to change. ♥

i agree with the no time. between readings, case studies, and working... adding unnecessary work to my schedule just isn't happening. i do like to sleep.

I agree with the severe lack of time comments. Between work and school, it's extremely difficult to get anything else done let alone scholarship essays.

Essay's are really hard to write when you are under pressure. I believe that writting essays or doing literary should be done stress free. This is the best way to fully express your writing!

My writing isn't even close to good enough to consider writing an essay to get money.

Writing essays isnt too too bad, it's actually getting started and not getting distracted that makes them seem so long, good luck!

Good point - look at all the people on this thing because it's so easy. Our chances are LOW, and so is the financial reward (in comparison) Essays are LONG and time consuming to write and fewer people are willing to put in the time. Those are better odds. I wonder what the results would be in comparing the number of these easier contests you could apply for (and if you won all of them) in the same amount of time it would take to write one essay (if you won that one)...would be an interesting study. Would you come out ahead?

I don't get why there are so many essay competitions in the first place... lots of people who are more science/math oriented are highly unlikely to do as well, but I don't see a huge number of competitions that cater to their learning style. And I totally agree with the time comitment thing... I'm working hard at school so that I can get into university and do well, but in order to be able to pay for university I have to put in a whole ton more work for these scholarship essays! How can I get the marks they expect if I'm spending all my time trying to win the money I need?

It seems to be this never ending circle. To get into university you need high marks, in order to achieve those high marks you need to work hard in high school, once you've been accepted you need the money in order to go, and in order to go you need to do more work to receive scholarships all the while you're still working hard to get the high marks. I know I find it overwhelming sometimes but taking it one essay at a time, one assignment or one application at a time, seems to lower the stress level a bit. And of course, not procrastinating (I'm still working on that one!)

When applying for essay contests, I save every entry that I write. Sometimes the questions are similar and you can just paste a previous answer into a new application form.

I think it's hard to write a lot of essays, but like a few people ahve already said, if you keep copies of all your essays, there are often ones that you can recylce, or modify slightly for another topic. Cuts down the work majorly!

i think the problem for me is i can't write essays. I heard they look something different. It's hard to create something amazing and the person who is very amazing has a chance of getting many schoalsrhips since everyone looks for the best.

Once you write one essay, you've written an outline for many others, aswell. I just take them and tweak them so they answer the question, while fitting in as much about myself and my activities as possible.
