Some of the essays have a specific deadline to complete, most of them have about 3-4 months. Thats when I try to prepare as much Essays I can to win any of those scholarships. By the way most of the essay topics are quite similar.

The essays that have must be at least 500 words are not bad but those looong ones, prolly like 5 pages or more are just ridiculous!! and sometimes...the award is not exactly to best paying one including the NUMBER of awards...they make the spots sooo tight!!!

Ya, it is really hard to write so many essays, but once you get started, I don't find that it's too bad. I usually let them all pile up and then spend 5 hours or so one Saturday and finish all my scholarships for that month. I find it works well, so anyone is welcome to use my strategy.

essay writing is my weakness i just wish recomndation letters or some intersting format like a video or pices of work or portfolios were used as judging criteria
those show your personality a lot clearer i think. unless ur a brilliant writer

Some awards are really disproportionate compared to their application... like 1 award of $1000 for a long application that takes several essays and a blow-by-blow of your extracurriculars since grade seven =S But I'm guessing that the foundations that do that have either received too many applications in the past and want to weed out the people who aren't willing to do that or they have a reputation to uphold and don't want to give the award to anybody who just has to fill out their address. Oh well, for people that have enough time on their hands to apply, just take comfort in the fact that the length of the application discourages a lot of other people from applying!

I definitely find writing all of these essays pretty tough. I complain about it to my mother all the time, and she just tells me to suck it up. When you think about it, if you win an essay contest, that is probably some of the easiest money you will ever make.

It's a pain, I agree, but you have to pick your battles. I decided I wouldn't have time to do all of them, so chose the ones I was interested in or would be easier for me to write and did those. It's well worth it

you just need to write whatever comes to your mind i think.
don't make a really generic essay. you need to use one that is specific to the topic.

I agree, it can be really chaotic. But I also use the same essay for a lot of applications. It can be irritating even so. However, my professor said that you have a greater chance of winning an essay contest scholarship b/c fewer ppl are willing to apply for scholarships that require effort. So you never know...
