Well everyone, I've talked to numerous people and so far this is the earliest early acceptance many people I know have seen...ever. I got my acceptance letter from the University of Waterloo today, for the faculty of the environment, as well as the faculty of arts. Curious, who else has got acceptance letters yet?

Wow, that is pretty early. I think the Systems Design offers go out later than some other ones.

Thanks

Well considering my post is based on me getting early acceptance and wondering who else has...then now, and obviously your finals are going to be looked at once you write them, the university sees your final marks as well.

First off - admissions are basically an ongoing process. It takes time for the universities to look at all of the applications, so just because your (hypothetical) friend got an offer today doesn't mean you have to wait for some "next round" to get an offer. You could get one next week.

Yes, they can and will send out offers based on a combination of gr 11 marks and gr 12 semester one marks. There is a bit of a lag between when you get the marks and when the universities do - and of course then the universities may have to process a lot of applicants. On OUAC's website (assuming this is for Ontario) there's a timeline of various dates, including the dates by which the universities should have those marks.

And yes, in recent years, universities have been giving out acceptances this early to students who are not in the top 0.1%. It can be a less competitive program (e.g. cutoff in the 70's) giving out offers to students with grade 11 marks in the 80's and higher.

FAQ's:
1. Will I get in? See: electronicinfo.ca for Ontario schools. If you have a couple percent above the marks there and it's not looking at supplementary, the answer is almost certainly yes.
2. Anything else: Google it before asking.

Condition: You must obtain the OSSD, successfully complete six 4U/4M courses including all prerequisites for your program and maintain a final average of 70%.

LOL 70%

That's pretty typical of conditions actually.

Last year, my average was just over 93, this year, my midterm average was 96. But universities don't see your 1st semester midterm marks I believe.
