to anybody who is currently attending the university of waterloo

how is the REV residence on an average day? i went on a residence tour to look at the place and from what it seemed in the hallways and the stairs seemed very dirty and dusty although the residences themselves seemed clean and were spacious enough for me. i really want to live here more than any other residence because of the community feel but it grosses me out knowing that the hallways and stairs were very dirty and dusty. also, the campus itself didn't seem as nice as it did in the pictures. don't get me wrong, i will still attend the university of waterloo regardless of how the campus and residence look. does the campus look nicer during other seasons?

I heard the campus is pretty nice during the spring term.. but this coming spring term will be my first time there that season, so I can't tell you for sure. And that's only going to affect you if you are on co-op.

Anyway, I lived in REV my first year.. it was actually my last choice, 'cuz I wanted a single room. But it actually wasn't bad at all. By the hallways and stairs, you mean the ones outside your floor? Hm, I don't actually remember it being dusty, but the stairs weren't really what you'd call 'nice and clean.' Part of it's probably b/c it snows a lot in winter, and people step on the stairs with their wet shoes. The hallway you see after opening the door of any floor, wasn't bad, though. They are cleaned frequently.
So.. I don't think you have to worry about anything being dirty, other than maybe the stairs. It is true I'm really ignorant to those things, like dust and etc., but from what I remember it wasn't bad.

REV did change a bit since I was there, though, with those triple rooms and stuff. Anyway, it was really nice. My roommate always had our door open, so people would drop by and come in time to time, so that would be a good way to make friends.

From what I heard, REV is supposed to be the "party" rez. When I went to visit the campus, I thought it looked pretty nice. Although I'm not sure I want to live there simply because of the double rooms, I'm hoping for UW Place or V1.

message me if you are going to UW next year! smile

hopefully you get into the residence you want smile i think REV is better for me as i need the feeling of knowing that someone is there. i like the exciting feeling of having an opportunity of meeting someone new and the fact that there are a lot of people to talk to. i wanted to live in V1 because of the interconnecting rooms but was told that most people end up with singles and i don't feel comfortable with that lol.

i believe that a 2 person room is better as it allows you to get to know your roommate better than if there were three people. also, if there are three people chances are that someone will constantly be left out or you won't feel comfortable unless you are used to being in a group of three. chances are that a three person bedroom in REV won't be as comfortable (space wise) compared to a two person bedroom.

On Waterloo's REV site it says you are guaranteed a 2ed year rez if you live in a 3 person room

http://www.housing.uwaterloo.ca/residences/rev/rooms.html

"Guaranteed residence for the duration of your UW undergraduate career. "

Anyone know whats that about?

It.. basically is just what it says. A lot of people want to stay in rez in upper years too, but there's a limited space for upper years. So as one of the incentives for prospective students to rank REV triple as one of the first choices, they are guaranteeing that people who live in REV triple first year will always be able to get a spot in rez in upper years as well. As a result, a lot of my friends (in our year there was no REV triple) couldn't get a spot for rez for the coming fall term..lol

That sounds like a good deal. As long as you want to live on campus for 4 years

That is a real good idea that Waterloo has done.

I may want upper year res for my other 3 years. Plus the $3100 is a good deal. That is only $387.50 per month plus a meal plan.

Hey Future Eng, which engineering (I'm guessing engineering b/c of your name) did you apply to at UW? Is Waterloo your first choice as well?

But yeah, that guarantee of upper year res is very nice.

REV looks pretty bad and tight when you walk in the hallway. The rooms are ok though. Does anyone know where I can see pictures of V1? I missed that rez when I went to the open house.

Aren't the V1 hallways worse? I visited that place during the open house and the walls seemed so flimsy. I could even touch both sides of the hall if I stretched out my arms a bit.

Definitely don't choose V1 if you're claustrophobic.

The residences at Waterloo are fairly nice, give you enough space to hang out with friends and have excellent food services. If you're looking for a nice apartment style house, apply to Mackenzie King Village (MKV) its such a great residence and one of my favorites to go to.
