I know most Universities have rules against pets in their dorms, but I know a few people who brought their pets after the first week and had no problems. I was just wondering if anyone has had experiences with pets in their dorms, weither bringing them, knowing someone who had one etc.
I have a cat who would be devastated if I left him at home. I won't be living in rez if I get into my top choice, but for my backup schools I would be, so I was just curious.

I have never heard of taking a pet to rez, except for one school in New York.

Honestly, I think it would be selfish and a bit disgusting to take a cat/any pet to rez. Keep it at home. It can survive.

I have never, EVER heard of someone bringing a pet to residence. Except for stories of people hiding small pets like hamsters or guinea pigs...

As Flag said, it would be pretty selfish of you to bring a cat to residence, where you'll probably be living with a roommate and floormates, some will undoubtedly have some kind of allergy or simply not enjoy pets in general. Also, I guarantee that your cat will have a better time at home, where he/she won't be locked up for the majority of the day in a small room.

A friend of mine had fish. I've heard stories of people with hamsters.

Don't bring your cat to residence.

FAQ's:
1. Will I get in? See: electronicinfo.ca for Ontario schools. If you have a couple percent above the marks there and it's not looking at supplementary, the answer is almost certainly yes.
2. Anything else: Google it before asking.

You want to bring a cat into residence? Good luck with that.

I know someone who brought a cat. They trained it to hide under the bed whenever it heard the door opening.

But I agree with everyone else, bringing a bed it selfish, don't do it. The cat will live.

Yeah, I'd feel sorry for the bed if someone brought it to residence. Might get jealous of the one already there.

Just curious, How are you going to take care of it?
Between social life & studying...

I too have never heard of people bringing their pets to rez. I think it would be selfish, not only to do that to your roommate, but to do that to your cat. They would be stuck inside a small room all day. Plus I'm assuming it's going to be an indoor cat, so you have the lovely litter box in there all day

yeah. And lets not even get into how jealous the dresser would be. That thing is just to clingy!

I hear tell roommates are even worse. Bring one along when you move in and the one that comes with the room is sure to kick up a fuss.

If you need a pet in rez, get a fish. If you have a single room or a very tolerant roommate, something like a hamster would be ok too (they're loud and can smell so you don't want to piss anyone off with one). A cat? Not a good idea at any point. Leave your cat at home for a year, you can handle one much better in off-campus living. (Again, make sure the people you live with are ok with it!!)

I brought a pet to my residence but my roommate put his foot down and I had to get rid of it. I guess tigers aren't for everyone.

Why bring a cat to rez when there's already one there? lol
My residence had a cat named Murphy. There are many stories about where he came from, but basically this cat just wanders around rez. It is not uncommon to find him chillin in your room or napping on your lounge couch. He'll often greet you when you come out of your room, like he was waiting for you. Sometimes he even goes to class. Many people have seen him sitting on a desk in one of the lecture halls during class, just watching what's going on.
In the winter sometimes he would get stuck outside. Murphy's pretty stealth but not enough to unlock a heavy door. So at night he'd sit out in the cold meowing for someone to let him in. He'd always let people know when he was hungry, and in a residence of 400 people, there was always someone with food. Best part is, he was well trained - he'd do his business outside.

Malinka, I would die if there's a cat like that when I go. I wonder what would happen if I took a cat to rez and just like, let it loose and let it wander around...

One day a kitten walked off the elevator onto my floor. We have no idea where it came from.

There was a dog who would hang around the exit of meal hall, and people would feed it. And there were a few cats who would wander around campus. To the best of my knowledge, those animals had homes they were just allowed to roam. The dog in particular was clearly taken care of.

that is pretty amazing.
of course I know some people don't like cats, and personally I would be annoyed if there were a dog in my rez...
