I am living at home and I find it quite relaxing and less stressful. When you are living on campus, you have to make your own food and if you buy your food, it is usually junk food which makes you obese. You have to do your laundry and all these extra things that could be avoided by staying home. I also get most of my work done at home.

living at home isn't bad especially you live close by and you're in your first year.

I'm staying at home. Helps that my university is walking distance (or I can take a streetcar, the subway, or a bus&streetcar ). I'm doing it pretty much to save money as I have to pay everything for university.

I think for me, having the comforts of home, while dealing with the uncomfortable transition to university just makes sense. The universities I am considering are about 30 - 40 min drive away depending on the time of day (i.e The drive at 8 am is a lot more hectic than if you were to drive at 6 am or 2 pm in the afternoon). I also have several other things to consider, that pushes me toward choosing to live at home.
- ie. The cost
- I enjoy my privacy.
- My pets ( I know its lame, but my dogs mean a lot to me, and I think one of the hardest things about being away would be being away from them)
- I enjoy sleeping in my bed, in my bedroom, and I have trouble sleeping in other places (Unless I'm about to pass out from lack of sleep)
- I have a boyfriend who unfortunately has to go back to college for another year, which is 40 minutes in the opposite direction from where the schools I would be attending would be. He commutes to school, but with me living 40 minutes in the opposite direction (If I was to live at the university) would just complicate things. Seeing as I wouldn't have a vehicle if I were to live at university, this would leave the driving up to him, which isn't fair. We will both have busy schedules, and living this far apart would make things more difficult, and would probably bear down on me emotionally while at school, which is not really good for studying. With both of us living at our parents houses here, even though we will be commuting 40 minutes in the opposite directions each day, we still have this commom ground where we will be able to meet back at, making it easier to fit time in for eachother when available. For those of you who maybe questioning me putting off a 'university experience' for some stupid relationship...let me explain. This is a serious relationship of three years, of which my boyfriend and I are truly committed to. If there weren't issues with his school this year, he would likely be attaining a full time job and moving into an apartment with me, near the university I choose this fall. I do have educational goals in life, but it is also important to have personal goals, and I refuse to let 'education/occuptions' take up my entire life. Besides if I were to live in residence I would feel awkward having my boyfriend over, if I did have a roomate, I don't like imposing on people.
- I can continue to maintain my job, which is very flexible, and my employer is willing to provide as little hours as I need per week, in order to adjust to my schedule. Even though I will be only working a few hours per week, it still gives me some pocket money, and money for savings through the year. They also provide $500.00 for students either each semester or fulll school year, for working students, which is also a plus.

I'm considering going to the university that's closer to home just so I don't have to worry about residence, but when I hear all of my friends talking about moving away and living by themselves I definetely feel jealous. I've always wanted to move away for university, but when considering my finances it doesn't really seem like a possibility. I've also considered maybe transferring to a university farther away after a year or two, but I'm not sure if I would feel out of place. Does anyone have any advice about transferring?

I'm going to be living at home, and taking the subway to college every morning and evening. I should get a lot of work done on the subway at least! I don't want to spend so much money on living on campus if I live pretty close.

I'm living at home and I'm thankful. I live about 10 minutes away from the university so it would be stupid for me to live in residence. I live in PEI so it won't be hard to find a drive to school each day. I feel bad in a way for people who have to live in residence but jealous in another way because they get to experience the full university stereotypical life. I'm mostly thinking of the money when it comes to this issue though, I don't want to be 30 and still paying off a student loan. And my parents are also making me stay home, which is the right thing.

I am...because I find that it will save me a lot of money and living at home has its advantages such as having the support from your family and you don't have to worry about all the problems that comes with living on your own.

I am too! Same reasons as everybody else... will save tons of money and the transition to university will be easier.

not sure whether i'm gonna live in dorms or not... cost of owning/driving a car and living in dorms are relatively the same. does commuting outweigh the cons of living in res? any suggestions from those commuting are welcome.

Update on my situation:
While my situation might be changing. I was planning on commuting, but now, my parents are thinking of selling their house and moving there. It's really crazy to think that my parents and I will be moving. It's not like they are moving solely because of me, but it would save money in the long run for me to be closer, as it would save money for my dad to be closer to where he works. this is really insane.

I'm going to be... although living on my own seems like it would be exciting, my university is 5 minutes from my house and it would be kind of wasteful for me to pay for my own place when my parents live that close.
