From what I have seen and heard, I think Western takes the crown, with Queens a near 2nd, and then maybe Laurier 3rd.

^ I was thinking the same thing too actually, but I wouldn't be able to rank-order them. School spirit is overrated: every school has plenty enough of it, but still our universities are nothing in comparison to American ones in terms of school spirit. BTW, some universities (UBC in particular) are considering becoming a part of the NCAA.

Canadian universities will eventually become a part of the NCAA but I don't think the Canadian university sport teams will be competitive with the exception of skiing and hockey. In addition, Canadian school spirit can't compare to American because of the amount of sponsorships, amount of student-athletes, money invested in the student-athletes, intensity, and gambling American schools have. For instance, Michigan vs. Ohio State for football is one of the biggest rivalries in college football because they are gigantic schools with huge sponsors, with a huge portion of their student population being student athletes, and lots of high expectations.

Not my school.. it doesn't even have that much school spirit to be honest. No one really goes to see our sport teams and especially our pom team. but that's ok! we have some school spirit =)

I think a couple football teams could hold their own against D2 or D3 competition. Western,Manitoba, Saint Marys, Laval, the big programs, but we would still get crushed by the big names like Texas or Florida or LSU

Yeah, the Canadian universities will play in Division II. I don't know about hockey or lacrosse, though.

Windsor University has tons of school spirit, but mostly surrounding athletics, and in particular track and field!
I was a rookie this year on the team and it was the most unbelievable experiences I have ever had in sports. I have been competing in sports since I was eight years old and I have never seen so much spirit in one group of people. Every few days we would get emails from our team captains and coaches expressing how well were epxeceted to do, how much faith they had in us, inspirational quotes and funny stories. The coaching is great! I love my coaches and team captains were so spirited and planned so many great activities. And at meets, everybody would cheer for everybody! It didnt matter what event you were doing, there would be people there to cheer you on!
If you are a track and field athlete and are looking for a competitive school, with a lot of spirit, windsor is the place to be!

I know what you mean about school spirit deflating..i remember in grade nine how the senior students would always be decked out for game days and spirit weeks and they were always very creative but now that i'm a senior it just doesn't feel the same...as far as laurier goes i went to the open house and their seems to be a sense of a lot of school spirit which is partly what i'm basing my decision b/c i love school spirit!

I'm hoping to go to Redeemer University College next year, a private school. Their athletic field is quite good, but it is the general atmosphere of the school that is amazing.

i would say York university has a lot of school spirit...but it doesn't just revolve around sports...they're big and really proud about their diversity and all the multicultural festivities they have are great! so i'd say york probably has the most school spirit. there's ALWAYS something going on!

Queen's is AMAZING for school spirit. Honestly if you youtube Queen's Frosh Week the stuff that comes up is ridiculous and amazing. Like you have to love it.
The school spirit at Queen's is one of the reasons I chose to go there.
