Ugh, both my bro and I leave for first year in september, and my older foster sister (she lived with us for seven years) is in school now too. Plus my couin is leaving next year, and we're helping her out too! (she's my dad's goddaughter too, her parents were laid off, and her dad helped my dad out when he was going to school). I also have two younger sisters, so the well may run dry for them....

but i've been really lucky in that my parents said they will contribute most of the money for university. Both of them got NO financial support from their parents, and relied exclusively on summer jobs and scholarships. My dad's parents were much too poor, with the exception of some of his siblings who chipped in some cash so that their baby brother could go to school, and my mom was kicked out of home in grade 13. So I owe it all to them! <3 <3

But I also work part-time over the school year and full time over the summer. I have $3000 in scholarships now (thanks to CMSF), and I'm hoping to double that. Plus money for enterance averages, especially if i got to Acadia. I don't have expensives tastes so when i get there i'll be fine.

Good news about Acadia is the cost of living isn't too bad, and the tuition is, I believe, guaranteed to go down a bit next year (or I'm forgetting and it's frozen next year and down the year after). If you've got any questions about Acadia, feel free to send me a PM or start up a thread with an obvious title smile (I might not see it if you post something in here).

FAQ's:
1. Will I get in? See: electronicinfo.ca for Ontario schools. If you have a couple percent above the marks there and it's not looking at supplementary, the answer is almost certainly yes.
2. Anything else: Google it before asking.

Nothing. Three of us our in Univirsity next year and my parents just can't help us, probably cause they don't want to favour one person over the other. I can probably talk my mom into paying for bus tickets and stuff though razz

It's funny reading this thread because we never really talked about it. My mom is doing her Ph.D, my brother is going off to school too and we aren't rich. I have a bit saved up and they'll take care of the rest. I work every once in a while, they'll keep working, and together we'll just make it happen. Parents are supposed to give you everything you need and more. It's the reason they work their asses off everyday. It's not a matter of being spoiled. It's just a cycle. We'll do the same thing for our children while our parents retreat to paradise in the beach house we buy them.

My parents will be paying for half the cost of my education. They have a small RESP for me, and the rest they'll pay over a few years. I'm paying for my half with my summer job savings (around $2500, hopefully), money I've been saving from working full time this semester, scholarships (not many I qualify for though), and a student line of credit. They way we're doing it is they'll pay my first year in full, and then in September of the next year, I'll write them a cheque for half of the cost. They don't want me to work my first year, so this gives me a chance to save up more money from April-August. And then they'll pay that year, and I pay half the next semester, and so on until I'm done.

I'm not bothering with OSAP, I don't qualify for any grants, and the loan they'll give me is only about $700. Since I won't be able to begin paying off my loans until 10 months after I graduate, I want to keep all my debt in one place so I only have to work on deferring payments on one loan.

Well I'm hoping they pay for everything I won't cover with scholarships - bar some extra living expenses like entertainment and shopping and what not - the sort of stuff I'd pay for with a job.

If all goes well with millennium I could have $56,000 - $60,000 from my scholarships (covering full tuition and books for the four years and some living expenses for each year). Then they have some money in the RESP which will go towards first year and I'm hoping I can keep all my summer job/internship/part time job money for things like my cell phone, foreign exchange etc. things my parents probably won't cover.

I think they will, only because my twin brother is TOTALLY covered. Heck, he's more than covered. He got his letter of appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, which is like a $400,000 education (free) and because it's military he gets paid to go. Second year, when he officially signs his life away, he gets something like a $30,000 "start up grant". Who needs parents when you have the military? razz

My dad is paying for my tuition. The rest is basically paid by my savings and scholarships. My parents also have an RESP for me so I'm partially covered for the rest of undergrad. I'm still going to work work work this summer to help save up for my younger brother's education since my parents only able to afford an RESP for me. Feel the love <3

... damn, I also got to think about my younger sister =.= The stress of being the older sibling.

I'm probably going to have to pay my own way for med school through student loans and more work....

I wish my parents would pay for something- anything!!!!!!
Jesus, they kill me. They are paying for my brother's tuition in York U, and they want me to "earn their respect" and "become more responsible". They sent my brother to a much more expensive school and basically they have spent double the amount of money on him.

I get to pay my own way through university and I doubt I'll receive much from OSAP since my dad earns quite well. If I don't get through university and some hopefully some crappy medical school in the caribbean by myself I'll friggin shoot myself.
