Anyone heard of any strange degrees/majors? I need to write an article called "Did you know you could go to school for this?" Please state any (most preferably from BC or Alberta universities/colleges).

Not sure, I would imagine there is a bunch. I remember reading about it when I was applying for school.

I did some research (by which I mean searching "unusual degrees" in Google) and I found an article called "Top 10 most unusual college degrees". They are:

1) Master Ranching
2) Astrobiology
3) Retail Floristry
4) Professional Nanny
5) Sports Ministry
6) Adventure Recreation
7) Golf & Sports Turf Management
8) Comedy: Writing and Performance
9) Organic Agriculture (I don't find this unusual)
10) Fishing Sciences and Management

http://www.scholarpoint.com/Community/Connect/archive/2007/10/18/top-10-most-unusual-college-degrees.aspx

The actual article goes into more detail about what studies are involved and why it is unusual.

Also, Clemson and Michigan State University offer GRADUATE programs in "PACKAGING SCIENCE". I know it probably deals a lot more with science of durability/protection and whatnot, but all I can think of is FedEx.

Well, you could take a look at degrees offered by different schools. And don't overlook the university colleges in BC, they're almost more likely to offer the truly unusual (although not always "degrees", if you need that).

Are you going for weird, or just stuff people haven't heard of that aren't all that common? If it's the second, Cognitive Science is something to look at, SFU at least has a program.

Brock is the only school with the wine (Oenology and Viticulture) program that I know of. If you want to make it count in BC Okanagan College has a transfer agreement with them to do 2 years in BC + 2 in Ontario (I randomly found that while looking for the first link).

FAQ's:
1. Will I get in? See: electronicinfo.ca for Ontario schools. If you have a couple percent above the marks there and it's not looking at supplementary, the answer is almost certainly yes.
2. Anything else: Google it before asking.

We have the only accredited 'Rap and Freestyling' degree in North America. I'd drop a twelve, but some admin would delete it.

My boyfriend goes to the University of Guelph for Turfgrass Management. It's a two year program offered through the university. When I found out he was transferring into that program I was like "They have a UNIVERSITY program that teaches you how to grow GRASS?!" Lol. He's done his first year now and literally, he learned how to grow and take care of grass on golf courses. There's a few little challenging things (remembering plant names for instance) but for the most part I can't believe it's a university program!

I'm sure with the number of courses in BC that there would be a university or college out there that offers a similar program.
