Has anyone received any luck with scholarships or bursaries. All the ones I know you have to apply, with ten pages of references and yada yada yada. But sometimes its worth the pain, you never know right? Anways I am applying to york university and you get to fill our you financial support profile and i havent done it yet which reminds me its due in april...boo...maybe that'll help.

What about the rest of you guys?

I've applied to some of the scholarship/bursaries, the easiests ones I must admit. It's tough to make time to write essays when I already have soo many for school. But seeing the testimonials is very motivating. Having the extra money would help alot, if you're not already attending college/university you have noo idea how much you'll need it, and regret not applying because you're too lazy. If you think about it, the minimum you usually win is $100-1000, if you spend 3 hours writing the essay, and WIN you just made $100-$1000 for that amount of work.

I have received one interview. That's it so far for Loran and was unsuccessful in moving on to nationals. But for me, although is a major bummer that I haven't won anything, as long as I continue to apply, I will never think, "What if?".

I found with university you should generally apply for everything, even if you don't 'qualify' completely - they're usually just looking to give out the money - to those who apply - 'qualified' or not.

In college, I asked if that tactic worked, and I was told no, becuase colleges are generally smaller and look to the detail and desire put in by the applicants.

I got one scholarship in university - it was an emergency scholarship that wasn't given out because NO ONE applied for it! The criteria was way off for myself, but they had the money, and I needed it.

In college I have currently received one bursary, and the application wasn't that hard to fill out, and very worth it!

I find it depends on how much money is possible to win, how awards are being given out, how rigorous it is to apply and how vast geographical area the scholarships covers. I find it is worth it to apply to the ones that need a reference letter from a teacher, a community member, your self and possible something from your principal, because if you get all those letters once you can use them again for other scholarships. Plus those kinds of scholarships generally have a lot more people that can get them. I don't go for scholarships that you have to write an essay for that only 3 people can win. Those just don't seem worth the time.

So far I've been published in the Authors of Tomorrow scholarship essay, but I haven't heard back from them about an actual scholarship yet. Quoted as "First two weeks of March" so I'm starting to assume I didn't make it.

Other than that, I've applied for numerous school specific and nonprivate scholarships, as well as a few draws. Unfortunately I was not drawn in the Talk About Canada draw today.

Does that actually work?...Getting scholarships you don't even "qualify" for? I mean, I'd hate to spend so much time working on the application, to not even be considered.

One of the things I have done is fill out and print off all of the 'form' type papers. I'm going to Africa over Easter break and am planning to have a big essay writing blitz over the 8 hour plane rides.

yeah most of the scholarship don't even worth it. there are ones that has only 10 across the states or canada. and they even divide the states or provinces into little groups. only one for each... right now i'm just aiming for the little ones around home, and getting sponsorships. perhaps it's because that my high school marks sucked, i'm better at getting sponsored by ppl i've already known...

I'm honestly a bit disappointed & depressed by the fact that I haven't gotten anything yet despite putting a ton of effort into the ones I've applied for...frown

I keep forgetting to apply, and then before i know it it's passed the deadline date. I just wish that they didn't take so long to fill out, so that we could all give our best efforts to everything and not have wasted so much of our time doing it if we don't get it.

I have always been so lazy applying for a scholarship which requires me to write an essay. What I did is check out the bursaries available at school. It's so easy most of it because it's available in blackboard and all you have to do is click and follow some instructions. If there's an opportunity to earn bursaries/awards/scholarships I usually apply fast unless there's essay involved...lol.. $250 worth of award matters. It accumulates. So keep tryin and asking your financial aid. It's worth it.

My essay got published for that Authors of Tomorrow scholarship too! I was wondering if anyone had actually won the scholarship yet. Haha
Congrats.
