I think if you make more than $18,700 on the year (income, scholarships, capital gains, etc...), then you get 0 from OSAP. This is only really a guess, based on the max estimate ($12,300) + $6,400 (what OSAP thinks you should make). There might also have to be a "minus expected parental contribution" added on to that, if you're not "independent". Kind of makes sense: a student should be able to live off $18,700... unless he or she wants to live large and opt for an apartment that costs $675/month.

Yeah something is fishy....

Karla is so interested with this interesting development. lol Maybe he is telling the truth?

^^ Well.. In fairness to Army, finances are private and we certainly don't know everything about his, nor about his personal situation, even with the information he has divulged. He is not necessarily lying.

That being said, this is definitely a curious situation and atypical for a dependent - which he is, irrespective of actual parental contribution (or not). So, Army, it would be very gracious of you to explain where the glitch is, since I am sure there are other dependents whose parents are not supporting them and who work very hard to try to support their studies and don't manage to get OSAP. Since you do pride yourself on being one of the most generous contributors of information on the board, this might be one of the best times to share your knowledge.

I don't, by OSAP's definition. But I am by the literal definition.

i think you're lying somewhere on your form. i guess your so called morals go out the window when it comes to you, huh?

I've looked over everything and it's correct.

So did you mark yourself as an independent then on your OSAP form? because you're supposed to go by OSAP's definition and not your own arbitrary one...

Here, give me your name, address, SIN number, and OSAP number and i'll call OSAP on your behalf and "talk" to them about these changes and see what they say---if you're confident enough to know that what you're doing is right then you wouldn't mind me talking with them.

(for those new to this forum, see the harvey's discussion to see what this is in reference to lol^)

I dont understand whats with the hard investigation on Army and what he is recieving from OSAP... why would someone so intensely Lie on what funding help they are getting...if you were going to lie on recieved funding one would think that they would lie and say they recieved Less as it makes one look more financially well off... at least thats what I would Think

My OSAP funding is quite accurate $5400 all Loan $0 grants ... and im SO excited to get my OSAP! Its my spending money for while Im away at School so I will be first inline to recieve that September 8th!

if it was anyone else on this forum no one would care at all but Army has been the person who has threatened to call people's employers and has been extremely rude to many people on this forum, calling their families lazy and them unscrupulous. and if he is being dishonest on his application it just seems to be extremely hypocritical, so people are calling him out on that.

I don't know where the glitch is (if there is one). They've noted that my actual income was $18,000 (approx.) yet I reported $5000, and as such they reduced next year's loan by a few hundred.

I'm still a dependant on my application; Carleton and OSAP knows that.

Well then... what have we learned? 1) Significantly underestimate your income and 2) do not report any changes to OSAP.

Oh, and 3) Army LOVES breaking the law.

What did I just say? lol... He didn't break the law. He reported everything properly, and didn't lie on his application or anything. Like I said, I saw it.

yes, but he "forgot" to report that he made an extra 13,000$ +.

I'm sure had eddyroo or anyone else made that mistake, Army would have taken it upon himself to call up their respective FA and OSAP office and report him for fraud.

And they're aware that I made that extra money. What's the issue?

Army, Are you going into second year? They probably gave you relief since it was your first time. If you do a false report again, you are going to have to pay back some of the loan for sure.
"extra money" You obviously knew you were going to make more than 5,000 because you ended up with 18,000. (Pretty big income estimate difference) You just wanted more cash that is why you reported less.

Yes.

No, I was in a new city, trying to find a new job, and going to a new school, so I didn't know how much money I could make.

It is not a problem if you don't report the right amount after the end of September (for the rest of the year).

It IS a problem, for example, if you estimate you will make $2K in the summer and end up making $7K and do NOT report this change when you go to your financial/OSAP office in the fall and sign the forms (those long, legal size papers, pink/yellow/green or whatever).

Also, any grants and/or scholarships that is not fully based on merit you must report as income.

actually you have to report any type of grant or scholarship, even if they're fully based on merit. you can later apply for the merit-based exemptions, but you must report the full amount nonetheless the first time.
