Anyone know of any scholarships that don't require you attend a specific university or aren't sports based that are coming up in the summer? Maybe we can share, so we can still get in on the money!

There are many of these scholarships, you just need to keep on watch! Try studentawards.com and scholarshipscanada.com. These will match you up with shcolarships like those you are working for without needing to wait for answers from other students.

Maybe we can share, so we can still get in on the money! I highly doubt anyone will share any information. When it comes to money, everyone knows that they have a better chance of receiving the scholarship if there is less competition. Just look at the threads. The ones refering to specific scholarships are topics such as, "Has anyone heard from this scholarshop yet?" or "Has anyone won?". As a matter of fact I am one of them. To be perfectly honest though, most major scholarship deadlines have already passed. I'm probably going to get flamed for this post but whatever.

There's one from Residence Linens (company that sells expensive stuff to first years for their rez rooms) and you don't have to make a purchase to get the scholarship, which is $2000 (well, actually, 8 awards that total $2000. I just re-checked. But still). And there's hardly any writing. It's just that no one knows about this scholarship compared to many others. http://www.residencelinens.com/scholarship_contest.php?osCsid=4454d225beafbd7b670ca61e850497d1

I'd try calling into your school office which is likely still open. They may be able to help you.

Is this a scam? I'm not one of those "call everything a scam" people, but it looked random and fishy

Yeah, the residence linens scholarship seemed alright until I saw that you could only be attending certain schools!

It looks legitimate. And it's actually (unfortunately) quite common to limit scholarships to certain schools.

There are some scholarships whose main purpose is as advertisement for the company. This doesn't mean it's a scam, but they're hoping that by offering a few small scholarships it will get the word out about their service. They make you write a short blurb about why you'd find their service useful, so it at least gets the idea in your head about it.. In terms of their service, I can see looking into it if you're coming from far away (e.g. by air), but it's probably not the cheapest way to get the stuff. It is probably better quality than the cheapest set at Wal-Mart though.

I only found the residence linens website through a link on the UWO housing web site, as I was attempting to find other information...and since I wasn't planning to apply, I figured I might as well post it here in case anyone else wants to bother!

This is the first year I have offered it. I have worked very hard to ensure that it is carried out properly and yes, it is only open to my nine partnering universities. Since I started Residence Linens in 2004, I have tried to put the best package together for the best price. In fact many students/parents have been told that they have actually saved money buying my complete package compared to buying all of the items individually, not to mention the time saving and convenience factor. When the student arrives, their order is sitting in their residence room waiting for them. If you are attending one of my nine universities, please apply. Cheers, Debbie Robertson, Residence Linens Owner

Do you foresee that in the future you might expand them to other unis like waterloo, queens, mcgill, etc.?

Thank you to Seamoraine for listing our schools. Since I started in 2004, I have grown slowly to ensure that we can provide the best customer service possible. Unfortunately, Dalhousie is not one of them. Next year I am hoping to move outside Ontario and have had some conversations with the University of Alberta. I am also hoping to add Waterloo and Queen's next year. Once I have a meeting at a school and they see the products, they are delighted to join us. The greatest difficulty is getting into meet with a school. I have had customers at non partnering schools because of word of mouth but I cannot put a crest on the blanket. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask. Cheers, Debbie drobert@rogers.com or through www.residencelinens.com
