My counsellor did, and so I did not attend anymore. Her reason was that if I dropped the math course my math teacher wont get paid by the government. She promised though it wont show up in my transcript if I repeat it.

Can someone elaborate what she is saying is true? Do transcripts just show the course with the top grade when you have done it twice?

I detect some sketchiness
I have to say though, most high schools in Ontario don't let you drop courses past midterm

Pourquoi?

No idea about most of what she said (though the reason of the teacher won't be paid if you drop out sounds like bull because it's not like you're the only student in class), but transcripts show the course with the top grade. However they do acknowledge that you have retaken it and some universities care about that, and some have a rule of only taking the initial marks.

THE ONLY WAY THAT THIS WOULD MAKE SENSE IS IF YOU WERE GOING BELOW THE 3 COURSES IN A SEMESTER LIMIT WHICH WOULD MAKE YOU A PART TIME STUDENT AND THUS LOWER GOVT MONEY TO THE SCHOOL WHICH GETS PAID BY NUMBER OF FULL STUDENTS.

I AM OFFERING FREE DATES, WOMEN APPLY WITHIN.

True. But whats up with all the caps?

I've never heard of a non-full HS student.

So on transcripts shows that I have retooken a course? She specfically said that transcript only shows grade and nothing else.

Here is the situation;

Last year I took Math 11 when I was grade 10. I did not do very well. This year I repeated Math 11 at high school and I did not well either in the first two terms, then I decided to do distance education. I have recieved 97 percent in it and heard that I am the top 2nd student with the highest grade of the whole math 11 distance education in the city. I told my counsellor that math in school is not the way for me and I learned much more better through distance ed, and she denied me from dropping it. I did not show up to math ever since.

If the case is that on the transcript shows that I took math course this year then I will be very disappointed because the counselor said she'll put the top grade in the transcript and there is no way that the transcript can hold that kind of information of how many times I took a course.

It should show. Alberta does and if BC doesn't then you guys have a system that lies to universities. I'm pretty sure it'll show because a lot of universities do request to have first-time marks only...

Can someone from B.C. who has knowledge about the transcript confirm on the validity of the fact that it holds the kind of information about how many times you took a course?

If u have less than 3 courses in a semester, then then you may be considered a part time student

Our school isnt semester based but rather it is linear based. If I dropped Math 11 I would be taking 6 courses!

Can I take my case to the principle. I really wanted to drop the course.

I really do wonder why the counsellor tries to work against my future. I remember asking her this very question and she said that transcript wont hold that kind of info regarding how many times you take a course.

Maybe she was unhappy because it took you three tries to get a decent mark in Math 11.

It would be considered two tries. As I said I didn't show up to math this year anymore despite the fact I was still enroled. Also last year was high school math and this year I took a different approach to learning math which was shown to be more successful.

I believe it makes no indirect reference to information regarding how many times you take a course.

Your transcript should show both marks (from an Ontario perspective though). However, your counsellor should let you drop the course. And I don't think teachers get paid any less, but I'm not sure about that razz If you drop a course after midterms, they simply take your current mark and put it on your transcript (without a credit).

There are some schools that have policies about dropping courses though; if you don't have 23 credits, then you can't have a spare (and you'll get one when you drop that course), so it might be that

I guess I should the case to a vice-principle(s). I have more than 6 courses, more than 23 credits, etc. So I see no reason why Im being prevented from dropping it when I am taking an identical course though a different means of learning.

If you take a course multiple times, then it will only show up on your transcript once.

Your from B.C. then? So is our education transcript that drasticly different than Alberta and Ontario? What if I am going to apply to Alberta; can they find out from the B.C. transcript that I took a course multiple times?

I can't confirm this, but I don't think that's true. Won't it appear every time you take it, with the corresponding mark? That's how it works in university anyway...

You can't drop a course past the midterms, as was said earlier in the thread. As for the teacher not being paid, that's not true because teachers aren't paid through the government...
