so i'm gonna specialize in psych at utsc but first year, i think i have to take just two courses (psy A01 & A02), so this means i have 8 electives. any recommendations for which courses to take?

for now, i just know that i wanna take a humanities course and a language(mandarin). for the language i'll have to go to st.george for right?

what are your interest?...try to pick courses that relate to your interest because it's easier to write about them ( essays, papers, assignments, class discussions etc.) ..
As for electives...i took:

- linguistics ( well i guess since you are into languages so you might like this course. It basically forces you to look at how humans acquire language *this course is recommended for people who are very comfortable with english. I am not a huge language lover so I didnt enjoy the course as much as others did but it was ok.
- geography (GGRA02 was a really easy course...interesting information but I think it all depends on the professor who is teaching it)
- women's studies ( very thought-provoking course...if professor Radia is teaching it...TAKE THAT COURSE because she is an excellent lecturer...kind of difficult but you get use to her. She is very passionate about her work)
- sociology (some of the course material was interesting- the only problem i had with this course was that there was overlap with psych but the way the topic was analyzed in each course was different which made the concept confusing at time when you are tryin to study for both exams)
- biology ( when i told ppl i was taking biology as an elective, they looked at me like I was crazy but it was actually ok. It was basically a review of grade 11/12 bio. I found the 2nd course ( BGYA02) really interesting because it was looking at ecology/evolution as well as the animal--> this course was kind of hard tho.)

electives I WISH i TOOK:|
- English...i have heard really good things about the English courses. They are very thought provoking and it helps with your written assignments
- Management ( a lot of management/ marketing firms want psychology graduates so it's a good idea to take at least 1 management course (take the 1st one because I heard from other students that it is easier)
- Health Studies (i've heard its a very good course
- Pol.Sci ( my friend told me its a good course and since I am kind of interested in politics now,...i might take some courses in there if i have a chance)

....choosing electives can be difficult. I would suggest picking a wide variety of courses so that you can find out what your interest are if you arent sure. Good luck with psych ( there is a lot of reading and memorize the textbook...literallyrazz (the professors that teach PSYA01/A02 are amazing...never boringsmile The Psych courses were my favouriterazz

as for your questions about mandarin..i was looking through the calendar and it says LGGa60/LGGA61/LGGA62/A63 (Introductory Mandarin for Heritage Students) and LGGB62/LggB61/B60/B63 (Intermediate Mandarin) are offered at UTSC....im not sure if they are being offered this yr (you would have to check the registrar website to see what time that course is offered which would save you some time ( you wouldnt have to go downtown)...
