Schulich, Queens, Richard Ivey....

I'm aware of a business school in UT called Rotmans,

is this a bba management undergraduate program at ut or a mba program?

how's its reputation compared to some of the ones I've listed above?

Rotman is MBA only (or at least was till this year). This year they renamed UTSG Commerce as Rotman Commerce (not sure if it actually changes anything, thouhg). Yes, Rotman is a VERY good school.

It's about time U of T figured this out. What's the point of having a business school and then offering your business programs outside the business school? I never really understood that.

It is NOT as competitive as Queen's, Ivey, et al.

Admission requirements don't indicate quality of school.

From what I know, and what I've heard from my sister (who works in Toronto and is quite experienced and successful), Rotman really builds a community of business leaders. It's not uncommon for Rotman grads to make deals amongst one another and quite often the connections they make at Rotman tend to lead to great jobs and successful careers. Of course, this is true of any business school or university in general; it's always about who you know. However, because Rotman is right in downtown Toronto, what better place to start your business career? The heart of Canada's centre of business sounds pretty good to me haha...

Rotman's School of Business is MBA... Rotman Commerce is undergrad. You apply into Rotman's after completely your four years in commerce.

Here's my dilemma when it comes to Rotman and other business schools:

I have been accepted into York's Atkinson for HR Management in which I'll end up with a Bachelors and Honors.
I have also been accepted for Ryerson B.comm for either Management or Finance.
Now, I've applied for UofT Mississauga for Co-Op Management. This one is very competitive to get into, obviously, and still have to get accepted ... which I'm confident I will.

All these are Undergraduate Studies. I'm about done Seneca College (Administrative Studies, Management). So,

Which Univ. is better for business? I heard UofT is very hard on marks, while Ryerson may be the opposite. Yet York has also built a good reputation with both Schulich and Atkinson.
Currently, I've paid my deposit to York (the Honors ...and demand for HR, really) but I'm strongly interested in Co-Op because of the work experience and possible pay too!

you have got to be kidding me! Rotmans has the 6th best MBA in North America. A way before anyother cdn ones. it's extremely competitive and costs a lot! People with 6-7 years of avg experience gets into this MBA program. It's not for the people looking for a quick mba.

I believe he was referring to the undergraduate program. As for Rotman being the 6th best MBA in North America...not even close.

When I read "Rotmans has the 6th best MBA in North America. A way before anyother cdn ones." I chocked on my tea. Come on, everybody knows it goes Queens first then Ivey in Canada for MBA.

Check out the rankings by Business Week:

I've never seen a North American ranking though, only US and Non US.

Queens university has a form that the applicant must fill out to list their extracurricular activities (forgot what the name was at this moment)

Does U of T have something similar and do they put as much emphasis on EC's? How about other business schools?

Good business schools will always have this. I know for sure that includes Schulich and Ivey.

Yes, U of T does have a supplementary form you have to fill out, with all of your ECs. However, I dont' think they weigh it as much as other business programs... I only had 2 ECs and I got accepted.

An example case:

2 students
Mr.A - 85% average, solid EC
Mr.B - 95% average, poor EC

if they applied to any business school, which one would have the advantage?

i guess my question is: Do EC's hold the same weight as marks when applying?

^ MR. B Obviously. Not everyone can get 95+, though almost everybody can get 85 if they try.

Very very true; I'm a Mr. (Ok, Ms.) A, albeit with better grades. I know sooo many Mr. B's who got into programs that I didn't get into. But it doesn't even need to be 95%; the difference between even a 88% and a 92% is huge.
