Columbia University is an Ivy League school and thus will be known better overall than UofT in most places.

Internationally (as a rule of thumb), any top ranking US university will immediately outrank a top ranking Canadian university in terms of recognition and reputation.

Same, I've actually never known Columbia University was an Ivy until recently. Only U's like Yale, Harvard and Stanford.

Stanford isn't technically Ivy. =S But I know what you mean, especially as of late, Stanford is really getting ahead of many of the original Ivys.

You will also be paying a bunch more cash for Columbia too.

Success is not the key to happiness, happiness is the key to success. If you love what you do in life, you will be a success!!

Columbia university has almost ten times the nobel prize winners of U of T. So in terms of sciences (scientists), it's like comparing St. George to George Brown.
