And I don't know where you picked out the dates 4th to 11th. Most of the Frosh activities are over labour day weekend-ish, in most cases, and labour day is the 1st this year. Classes often start the Weds after labour day (the 3rd in this case), and if not then, then by the next Monday I think. Sounds like a pointless event. I'd rather work, be with my girlfriend, or sleep. I picked the 4th because that is my first day of classes. It was mentioned earlier in the thread that it was the first week of classes, so I was wondering if that was the time period it covered. Carleton University Bachelor of Arts in Law

Frosh week is about helping you meet people and helping you adjust to the university environment. It's not pointless (at the same time, I have to agree it's not "essential").
FAQ's: 1. Will I get in? See: electronicinfo.ca for Ontario schools. If you have a couple percent above the marks there and it's not looking at supplementary, the answer is almost certainly yes. 2. Anything else: Google it before asking.

It can be pointless for some I think though. Helpful to many however.

And it is pointless if you're planning on socially-isolating yourself from everybody except your girlfriend.

Well geez, I'm going to have to work so hard at keeping our relationship together that I don't think I'd have time for all that fancy socializing... I don't see the need to participate in drinking parties and getting painted, as was mentioned earlier in the thread. If it was campus tours, getting to know professors, and having my transition looked after then that'd be great. However, it seems to be largely based on partying and becoming acting like an idiot immediately after leaving your parents' side. Carleton University Bachelor of Arts in Law

No the parties are after all the orientation stuff, but tend to be people's main focus. Orientation offers all of the above that you mentioned.

Drinking is fun. I enjoy it. Once in a while, definitely in moderation. I have nothing against anyone who doesn't like drinking however. As long as they're not preachy about it.

Yeah drinking to feel better is definitely a problem. A lot of people will drink to have more fun however. Alcohol is really quite the social lubricant. I find I will have just as much fun whether sober or drunk when I go out with all of my friends, but if I'm with strangers/less good friends I do not enjoy being sober when everyone else is drunk.

But don't you want to go to Frosh to meet people, drinking or not?

Enjoy all the alcohol you can while you’re young kids. Because after college, it’s known as alcoholism. LOL i'm so getting flamed for this. For the record, I don't drink. Environmental Studies & Resource Management, Earth Science University of Waterloo '11
