Definitions:

Frosh = first years
Frosh week = first week of school meant for activities for frosh (definition above) to get to know each other / school

How does Frosh week work:
Show up in the first week of school even though you have no class lol

End Result:
Lots and lots of fun and you'll most likely meet your best friends throughout university during that week

I heard that students from UTM and UTSC all go down to UTSG during frosh week. I don't know if it is for the entire week or just for a day, but I'm pretty sure that they all meet up at UTSG at one time or another. Then again, I've never been to UT's frosh week so I can't be trusted...

I can't wait for the excitement of having 60,000+ pumped students in one place together for a party night.

Remember, Frosh = first year only.

During frosh week, would upper year students be around at all? I bet it'd be annoying for them to have crazy first years running around all over the place.

Some would probably go to an on-campus party. Still, not even all the froshes will go out let alone all the upper classmen.

I know a girl who will be missing moving day, and then the following day and a half.

Does someone who's been to frosh before, think this will really matter?

I assume day 1 will be like totally moving, since every parent has to cry and such, so it takes a while.

So would she really only miss 1.5/6-7 days? And if so, will this be a big deal or will she have lots of time to make friends?

missing 1.5 days is nothing in the grand scheme of oweek. My first 2 days was a whirlwind of activities and programming. All I did was go to events, decorate my room, become familiar with maybe 4-5 faces on my floor, learned the names of like a 100 people and forgot maybe 90 of those names, etc....it was fun, but hey, there are 4.5-5.5 more days. Those days are more to get you acquainted with the university. There are lots of oppurtunites to make friends throuhout the year. In res, its not hard at all as long as you are open and friendly.

well if anything there's always F!rosh Nite (held as a party at the guvernment - a club - for all university students by UofT engineering)... we got close to 5000 people from all universities showing up for the party last year! Every year it's grown so make sure you come out with all your friends too

Talking about decorating rooms, what are some interesting and unique ideas that you guys have come across? I'm not one for sticking posters and pictures (actually, at home all my walls are pretty blank; unless it's something phenomenal I really don't think I should have to look at it everyday) and I know we can't nail things or do anything to damage the walls... So I need some cool suggestions =)

this night.... i believe it's the last night of frosh week...frosh from all UT colleges are welcome...it starts with a parade around downtown toronto and ends up with a concert featuring a "well known" act...last year it was metric...according to my vic tour guy

First off, there's upper year students around as frosh leaders, RA's, etc. So those ones are obviously around.

At Acadia where lots of upper years lived in rez, the move in date for upper years was a couple days after the move in date for Frosh (I want to say the frosh moved in on Saturday, with the upper years moving in on Monday). So the upper years living in rez wouldn't tend to be around the first couple days.

For off campus upper years - they may well be around, and have things to do at the university, but it's not like they sit around watching Frosh. But for example, when moving around as a group, every once in a while we'd come across someone who used to live in the residence and have to bow to them or something. (Acadia's Frosh is very residence based, others are more faculty based).

To the person who was moving in late, it is a good idea to tell the university (probably the residence people) that you will be arriving a bit later. Unless you find a paragraph about late arrivals and it only says you should do that if you will be later than you are. If you will be arriving after the first day of class, DEFINITELY tell them. If you don't show by a certain point and you don't tell them, they could assume you aren't coming and give your room away.

Sorry if you're looking for someone else to answer your questions, lol...but this was something I was good at. I was the same, I don't put pictures up (because I don't every print them) and I don't plaster my wall with poster becuase they're expensive! Alternatives:
- a string of lights. They make the room seem warmer, and welcoming and it's more fun to hang out in a room like that
- lava lamps, or a black light
- A calendar instead of posters. Last year I bought a 10 dollar calendar, took out the staples and did some cutting....you instantly get 13 posters (the one extra one is from the calendar cover). They're smaller than posters, and sometimes the way they make them, they have a white border around them, so at a glance, they look like they're framed.
- shirts. A lot of people might wear their frosh week shirts as pajamas, but if not, they pin them up to the wall using push pins to not damage walls, use stick tack and push pins (where you can...I just remembered some rezs have brick walls).
- Change the curtains. I know it says not too, but it's one of the more lenient rules...
