with UBC's MES the only way to work with it is to decline a year's installment. You can't actually defer an installment and receive it another year. So if its a 20k award, you can only have upto 5k per year. I had asked if I could defer the first installment for another year (so i would get, 0-10-5-5) but they said that they couldn't do that, but they could make it 0-5-5-5 if that would help at all, but it wouldn't for me.

what they are letting me do, however, is to defer the 4k PES to year two. That helped a bit because there were some organizations that said they couldn't defer their award for a year.
