By the definition I was given to learn, one of the characteristics of a world issue is that it generates controversy: both the "definition of the issue" and the solutions that are being considered. If this really is the case...does this not mean EVERYTHING is significant enough to be an issue? No one in this world agrees collectively on any topic. What makes one issue more important than the next then? In my eyes, it's all or nothing. Either be ready to consider anything and/or everything as a world issue or nothing at all.

I took World Issues last semester, and although I agree that a world issue generates controversy, I think you're thinking in too literal of a sense. A world issue has a major impact on a specific group, and although you may think "well, everyone can be affected depending on their views", it's more than that. It's not just disagreeing, it is something that can drastically alter the course of life. Yes, many things CAN be world issues, but it has to affect a large number of people. It can just be "poverty in the city", it has to be more like "poverty in the nation".

From what I have learned a world issue is an issue that can be proven to have an effect on economics, environment, politics and cultures...

I think world issue is the concerns that effect the world wether for good or bad, and how the greater world Intertwines. I took it in high school years back so the way i understood was to look into the students perspective of where these issues begin and how they effect the world. could be wrong lol

A world issue is something that causes controversy. Something like capital punishment is considered a world issue because not all countries have abolished it. Abortion is another example of world issue. Both these things affect the general population and not just a small minority so they are thought of as world issues.
