I've spoken to guidance and university employees and they base their decisions solely on the applicant. Sorry ha. As long as you're application is epic though, you'll be fine.

I can't cut it down anymore!!!>< i hope they don't count, cuz that would be really sad. Queen's in really, really picky. (For example, they take into account whether or not you picked them as your first choice if it's a small program). Which is a HUGE bummer. I talked to my guidance, who've spoken to the university, etc, and if it's an extremely tough decision between the applicants, they could get down to word counting and toss it if the number is over 400, ('it's easier to do a better job with more room to explain, write, etc' apparently..), to make things easier for them. I doubt it'd come to that, but it is a possibility, especially with Queen's. Sorry, it's frustrating. If you have time, précis what you can to shorten it. If it's too late to shorten it, then good luck and hope it doesn't come to that. I wouldn't worry too much, it's not like it's 100 words over or anything. Hope it goes well for you!

purpledog wrote:Ya, I have a blank section there too. The only thing under my "national" competitions section is a math contest in grade ten :S fortunately I have a full page of EC's but I feel like I just BS'd a few to be honest. And about your commere question, i'm not too sure. Sorry! Soo... how confident is everyone on getting the scholarship? I'm curious to know I'm not overly confident. I feel good about my application as I have a lot of varied, hard to get stuff. But nearly every other Student Trustee in Ontario I've spoken to wants to go to Queen's, which is unnerving as that means super involved, impressive kids (far more impressive than myself) would likely apply for the scholarship too. It's a downer, as I'm almost sure I won't get it ha. And that's only Ontario. But why not apply. My highschool has a really good track record for Chancellor's (2 winners last year), so it is possible. I dunno... :S I'll just pray and cross my fingers.

Hi guys, just had a quick question for Queen's chancellor's scholarship. The section where it states "original and creative thinking," whatever content we decide to put into it, does it have to be in "black" ink, or can it have color? I am asking this because I have something I was gonna put on it, but after reading the instructions, they want the entire application in black ink, so I was wondering if the photo being black or white has any relevance. Thx.

The notes indicate they will photocopy the application before passing to the reviewers. It is in your best interest to make sure it will look good photo copied. Suggest you photocopy that page yourself to see how it looks. epicplayer wrote:Hi guys, just had a quick question for Queen's chancellor's scholarship. I didn't spend much time on my essays. It took maybe half an hour per essay to do the first copy, but I really can't remember how long it took to edit. But i didn't even edit it that much... hahaha. Oh well! I'm sure you essays are fine

Hi everyone!
I was wondering that since the deadline for this application says "received by December 1st, 2010" would it still mean that applications arriving that same day will be accpeted? I just want to make sure!
thank you

Question: Does Queens want you to put them as your top choice? As in, if they're not your 1st but say 2nd or 3rd are your chances of getting the scholarship significantly lower? Also, what if you get a scholarship but decide not to go? do they give it to someone else or not give it out at all?

When I was at the open house, they said for all admissions it did not matter whether they were 1st or 50th for admission, therefore, for scholarships, It probablly does not make a difference. Can't answer the 2nd part of your question though.

How do you know if your application has safely arrived? My school said they would courier it on my behalf, but I'm kind of paranoid that it won't arrive or something, haha. I tried checking the Student Centre but it didn't seem to say anything. Thoughts?
By the way, after December 1, we should all come back here and put down what we put for the Original/Creative Thinking section. I'm interested to know!
Also, do you think they pay more attention to the essay questions and reference letter than your list of extracurriculars? I think that personal development and what is your character is like is much more important than a bunch of non-descriptive single lines about various ECs... but what do you guys think?
