You should apply for OSAP within the next couple weeks to a month, particularly if you think you might possibly be qualified for the QEII scholarship. There is, however, no hard deadline, but they do claim to want 10 weeks to process it and I assume you'd rather have your money on time smile

I applied the day the application became available. They said it would take about 10 weeks to process the application, and I definitely don't want to hold up the funding for university. The university now has my application and it will be about six to eight weeks before they know the amount I'll be able to claim.

Why did you bother Josh? My dad is on disability, my mom does works less than full time hours, there are 6 kids in my family and I know I would not get a cent.

Because my mom makes okay money as a small town lawyer working 2-3 days a week and my dad gets disability and makes a bit more money in a very part time job.

You would be surprised how low a parent income has to be in order for you to get OSAP.

None of my siblings ever got OSAP either.

are you talking about loans or grants and bursaries? i'm pretty sure you'd still qualify for loans

No loans or grants - a big fat zero! I could probably get something from a bank but nothing from OSAP.

I"m telling ya, the cutoff parental income is very low.

well we've got three kids in my family, both of my parents work (though one is really only part time and the other works two part time positions), no one is on disability and we're not aboriginals and when my sister applied she was still eligible for osap.

i'm pretty sure with 6 kids if your income is below like 70 000 or maybe even 80 000 you'd still qualify. that must be one heck of a part time job your parents work at!

LOL, some of my siblings have graduated university, live at home and work so I think OSAP consider us having 3 kids.

I'm not sure how OSAP works exactly but I know I do not qualify. Pretty sure our income had to be something like 55K and under for me to get anything.

your parents make more than 55k? well that explains it most likely. though on the estimator i recall reading something closer to 70k for a family of five but i might be wrong.

Is there any way of hiding your funds from OSAP?
Like should I wire all of my savings into my parents account so that I end up getting a loan?

They make more than 55K plus only I will be in university in Sept 2008. The other two are still in high school and the rest are now finished university. I think how many a family has in university makes a difference.

Not a chance in hell. OSAP is very strict. Plus, they will want to see all your parents' income too.

i thought so too until i saw that my sister got a bursary from uw and i didn't, despite us having two kids in uni now rather than just one when she was there. which really doesn't make sense

But a bursary from a university is different than OSAP.

If they only see my parents income (around 100k), I'll end up getting close to a 5000$ loan,
If they see my funds (like 3-4k), I'll only get half of that. (2.5k)

To be safe, I'm going to transfer my funds out and report that I have 0$ in savings.
