A few questions here: What's your average? Is the material understandable? What's it like being an engineering undergrad? (Like, do you still have time do get drunk lots? How much time do you spend in class and on homework?)

my average this last semester was 78, puts me in a rank of somewhere in the top 50 students of 310 (i'll find out exactly what rank in about a week or two)
you wouldn't really be an engineering if you didn't understand material lol otherwise it would just be useless and you wouldn't be able to build anything!
Being an engineering undergrad is filled with A LOT of class and a lot of studying but many still find the the time to go out and have fun regularly with their Art Sci friends lol
UofT specifically tells its students that you should spend 2-3 hours of work for every hour of lecture.. we have about 30-35 hours of class in the first two years (17-25 hours in last 2 years) so that would bring it anywhere from 70-120 hours a week of work... mind you a lot of people don't put that much in, but if you want to be a top student you'll probably need to study that much lol I personally study about 10-15 hours a week (not including the 30 hours of class)

70-120 hours of work per week?
That is ludicrous.
120 hours is roughly equivalent to 17 hours of work every day of the week. How the hell is that possible?
If I dont sleep at least 8 hours, I am just unable to concentrate. Its quite annoying...

lol yeah exactly thats the point but again no one really does that.. i think the really crazy people do like 70 hours which is still A LOT but 90% or more of the engineering students will do appx 40 hours/ week

This is from UT's mie site. "Generally, classes are from Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm. Students on average have 25-30 hours of classes per week, which is more like 50 hours in total, when studying time is considered. "
I also have a question about engineering courses...a course usually has a lecture, tutorial, and lab component...what exactly are the tutorials? is it just a question and answer session? if so, does that mean it would be alright to skip some of them to lighten up the classes?

However if you don't keep up with the homework, you'll find it utterly useless and not to go class blaming it on a bad TA (something I've done many times haha). But yeah I think you should go to EVERY class, they are all very helpful whether you realize it or not

I am study Engineer at Toronto University. I am study Engineer of Industries at Toronto University. My average mark grade semester one is low 60's, semester to high 60. I am take two course in summer school, MIE and ECE. I am aiming for a 50 so I can just get the credit. Anymore question.

How much do you work? etc. That would be more useful.

From what I've gathered engineering is not a good job. You work and study all day, get bad pay (considering how much you'd make in other professions with the same, if not less, amount of work), and it's not particularly prestigious or glamorous. Besides, some of the best engineers end up in law or med school anyway. If I'm wrong about anything, then please enlighten me. But based on the threads in this forum, engineering seems to be a waste of time and effort.

Haha yeah same here. Okay here's some more questions: Anyone have any opinions on civil? I'll be starting a degree in civil eng next year. Is it easy...hard...somewhat in between? I had a better question but I can't remember it.

I remembered my question! Okay, current engineering undergrads - what did you take, or recommend taking, as an elective in first year (and I guess after first year). I keep hearing people say psychology is easy - is it? Any other easy classes? I was going to take a low level French course, since I am still taking it in high school, and I figured that a low level course would get me an easy mark, but Carleton's list for acceptable electives sadly does not include French. I guess it is not "arts and social sciences" or whatever their website said. Anyway: suggestions?

Electives? Whoa, at UofT I think you get 3-4 over the 4 years...
And yes, fine...Engineers have a high salary off the bat. But there isn't really that much room for growth, compared to other Professionals such as MD, CA, etc.

let's just say the only way engineering is worth it is if you REALLY REALLY have an interest in the subject matter.. otherwise it's worthless and you will hate your life / job / everything
Money for engineers in Canada is absolute garbage but in the states is pretty good and Europe and Asia is getting much much better (Canada is one of the worst in terms of salaries for engineers)
and yeah as for electives, don't worry about that now, you probably won't get an elective until 2nd year earliest so you have lots of time to decide
and Taiyab, actually i'd say the opposite, we don't really have high salaries off the bat.. about $45-$60 k but the amount for growth is crazy if you can get into management! If you want to be a monkey for the company then you'll never get past the 100 or 110k mark but in the most recent issue of the IEEE magazine, they did a survey of 1400 US IEEE members, and it showed that in the top dectile of members who were in management, their average salary was 240,000 US!!! that's insane!! However as for developers, designers, etc.. usually the highest is around 160 and you have to be pretty good at your job to get something like that
