I live in a relatively rural area. And by relatively I mean that we own chickens, and sometimes rent out our back field to those with larger livestock after our sheep were torn to itty-bitties by some loose dogs.
Anyway, both schools I applied for are in very urbanized areas. Vancouver BC and Oakville Ontario.
Being as how this'll be quite the gear change for me, how best can I adjust to living in such a drastically different environment?
I won't be living in res either, just winging it with some roomies.

Dive in and learn as you go! Budget your money so you don't go spending with all the readily available stuff that you find all around you in the city. Make some good friends who know the city so you know people who can help you out when you need something, like directions to a certain location and whatnot. And don't get caught up in the party scene too much or your grades will reflect it! Well, that choice is ultimately up to you.

i agree. take it slow at first. be comfortable with your school studies before you go and venture out. make that decision of whether or not you want to continue to focus on your studies or hit up the party scene. A good way to meet friends and people who can help you with your school work are the people that are in your classes. that is the number one source for friends. the more friends (or people you are accquainted with) that you have the more successful you'll be

I'm the opposite - I am from Southern Ontario and am thinking about going to the Maritimes to Dalhousie. I am worried I'll find the pace to slow compared to here. I mean - in half an hour I am in Toronto or in 1 hour I am in Buffalo. I don't want to be the "Ontario freakshow" either with people asking "Do you drive on 4 lane highways....Do you go to the Eaton Center.....You've been to such and such....." Like it was last time we were on hollidays with my grandparents - it was annoying to play "20 questions"

Life isn't about fitting in - it's about standing out !!!
