I know the guidance counsellor should know what she's talking about, but don't follow people blindly.

Quote:That's pretty much your own stupidity, sorry to break it to you. I somewhat agree. You should always ask questions (many sources) when you have doubts, especially about important things like this. I feel bad for you though, it's a real shame when someone is in a position they aren't passionate about, let alone half-decent at fullfiling the position.

I think it would be my own stupidity had I not confirmed what she said with three other guidence councillers.
Since they all told me what she told me, I don't see what I was supposed to do other than believe her.

But why search the internet when you already have four professionals saying the same thing?

Yeah, I've learned that you have to do your own research before doing everything - Now I'm a part time student - gorgeous! i'm not a fan of this woman...At least she's leaving on preggers leave! Wooh! P.s. Flag, that sucks. I agree with both sides - At leas you've learned a lesson of sorts. I got screwed over in math though, with the new Ontario curriculum. Math sucks, number one. Number 2, I had to take all 3 hard ones. Number 3, I switched out and took the easy one despite everyone saying NOO!! Number 4, I'm so glad I did!

Haha, Panagokas and Nesbitt always make my laugh--they actually convinced everyone that there were brother and sister. It's quite hilarious. Sorry off topic. Good luck with everything! At least you have a good music teacher ;) AHAHA Nesbitt...he was at CSS for a year and didn't have a clue what to do! However he was a fun guy to work with (I was on student council so I did a lot with him)

I don't understand how you're coming back for a sixth year?! What happened when you were supposed to graduate after your fourth year? Or fifth year? I don't think you can really blame a guidance counselor at that point. Even if it was her bad advice that forced you to come back once, you should have been able to finish after your fifth year. It's not really tough to look at university pre-reqs and take the appropriate classes. When I was finishing up grade 11 I checked out all the uni pre-reqs and took classes accordingly. Even if you didn't do that in your third or fourth year, when you were stuck coming back for another year it probably would have been a good idea...I've never heard of someone coming back for a sixth year. Thats the third time you're doing grade 12...wouldn't you run out of classes to take???!!!

I didn't misunderstand. I was told three times in person and once by email, that since the school did not offer enough programs, anything above 70% in an open course would get a U credit.
I was going back for a 5th year anyways because I got crappy marks in my 4th year. I couldn't get a good enough mark in math, so I took open business communications and got a good mark, but since they told me what wasn't true, I have to go back for a sixth to get one credit.

Couldn't you have just taken summer school? In my city you're not allowed to go back to your high school for extra years, you have to go to a special high school down town.

I am so excited for grade twelve! Can you imagine? When we were in elementary school, we would look at all of those grade six kids and say... "Wow, they're so cool," and then they'd leave and be off to Middle School and then in Middle School we'd be like... "Wow, those grade nine kids, they're so cool..." and then we were there and went to High-school and now we're in grade twelve! I like to think of it like this:
In kindergarten, we had to have our inside shoes, our moms and dads had to buy them for us, and at the end of the year we got to take them home for summer... Come June, we're taking our inside shoes off for the very last time... We'll be out of the system and on our own!
So excited for Grad.

I'm 17 Let me take this opportunity to finally introduce myself In less than 2 weeks, I will be in my final year at high school, which is great but also makes me stressful and anxious for what's to come. Courses I will be enrolled in are: Biology 4U Advanced Function 4U English 4U ... and second semester Calculus 4U French 4U Phsyics 3U or Yearbook (open course) I've wanted to be a teacher ever since I was little, which partly explains my love for languages- English and French are two of my best subjects. But recently, I have found myself being drawn to the sciences. When I first entered high school, I vowed that I would not take any additional science courses. But last year, I took biology and chemistry, and I have truly enjoyed them. So now, I'm thinking about heading into the sciences- perhaps to become a dentist or doctor? Thus, is phsyics necessary? I couldn't take it last year because I had to take civics and careers (the most useless course, but it is needed to graduate), which I couldn't take in grade 10 due to timetable complications. I would have taken phsyics online this summer, but it was not offered. Grade 12 phsyiscs is offered first semester, which is a huge bummer. Should I take grade 11 phsysics second semester anyway and hope that I can get the grade 12 one online in the summer.. or at least enter university with a grade 11 phsyics? Also, do marks for online summer courses count towards your average-- your school average? I know that your average when entering universities is the average of your top six courses. I was just wondering about that because I'm not entirely happy with the marks I have received for my online courses. In addition to the grade 12 courses I'll be taking this year, I have already taken: Philosophy 4U last summer Chemistry 4U last semester Writer's Craft 4U this summer Opinions or adivce?

I'm 17 years old and entering grade 12 at an Alberta high school next year.
The courses I'm planning on taking are: *English 12 *Social Studies 12 Pure Mathematics 12 (Advanced Functions) Chemistry 12 Biology 12 French 12 Physical Education 12
My average last year was 88%, but I'm planning on gunning for a 90%+ average for grade 12.
I'm very undecided with what direction I want to go, with interests in going into law, medicine, or business... However, my top choices for university are UBC, UofT, McGill, and UofA. The undergraduate degree I'm leaning towards have been cut down to either science or arts.
