I'm a victory lapper. I graduated this year, but my guidance counsellor was a real....well...use your imagination. She made me take 3 University level math courses, and I CAN NOT do math. I had to drop it and it was too late to pick up another, so I ended up only having 5 4U classes instead of 6, so I missed out on the ontario scholar and all that lovely jazz, but no one told me so I was freaking out at my graduation. Grade 12 (again..) here I come!

hey guys! just a quick question. Out of curiousity, which schools (and for which programs) deduct percentage(s) if we repeat a course? I'm interested in business-related programs. The one university that I know of is Queen's University. Any others?

Queen's will average out the repeated and original mark for prerequisites only - this is for Commerce and I think Engineering as well. I think it's all about getting second or third opinions...I would never religiously trust University related things a guidance counselor ever told me. Heck, I had one discourage me from taking any science courses and said things like "do you plan on sleeping next year?". Terrible advice considering I did not get a single science mark in grade eleven below a 91, lol.

That is terrible... thankfully I had a pretty good guidance counsellor and she was the one who told me to continue with bio and chem in grade 12, just to keep my options open (because I told her I didn't know what I wanted to do). I ended up dropping chemistry, but I ended up with a pretty decent mark in bio. I didn't need it, but it was a good learning experience... cellular respiration and whatnot.

I'll definitley be looking for more opinions though!! Good job in Science! I couldn't do science, either, if my life depended on it. In grade 10 I couldn't balance an equationo to save my life - and my sister's a biochem major!! anyways, it'll be fun looking into all the schools and whatnot, and I have really learned to talk to the university liasions!! they are your best friends, although they may be a little biased!

Although it stinks to have to do grade 12 again (if I am understanding correctly), I think that extra year will help you figure out where you're going. Sometimes I wish high school was 5 years long...as much as I want it to end, lol !

It kinda sucks, it kinda doesn't. I get to do band and all my clubs & teams again, and last year in gd 12 I was Student Council president, with very little support so I intend on taking it a bit slower and less stressful - i can't tell you how many times i broke down in an office. i'm wanting to do all sorts of better stuff and get more involved next year, so no, it doesn't really suck. i'm really excited - i went shopping today for supplies! i love staedtler coloured markers and bic pencils. i'm such a geek

Hey Everyone! I'm going into Grade 12 Next Year, and I can't wait for university! So, here's my 4U Course Selection: ENG4U English - 83% Final (took in grade 11; want to re-take) MHF4U Adv. Functions- 92% Final (summer school) CPW4U Politics (1st sem.) PSE4U Exercise Science (1st sem.) SCH4U Chemistry (1st sem.) FSF4U French (2nd sem.) MCV4U Calculus & Vectors (2nd sem.) SBI4U Biology (2nd sem.) SPH4U Physics (2nd sem.) I have been elected as president of student council, and I have been the yearbook editor for the last 2 years and plan to continue next year. As for my English, I am convinced that I want to redo it as the mark is 7-9% lower than my average, and it was definitely the teaching style that threw me off. However, I do not know whether to a) Take it through correspondance or b) Give up my spare for it. I am leaning towards correspondance, any suggestions? Also, I am looking around at Uni programs right now, and the one that has caught my attention is Health Sciences @ McMaster. Does anyone know of comparable programs?

I cannot believe that people are retaking courses you got an 80%+ in.

Although it is a little silly, if someone wants to get into the McMaster Health Science program they not only need all the luck they can get but also marks as high as they can get. With English being one of the prerequisite's, an 80% will not only bring down their average significantly but it will also not look too great on a transcript.

My school suckssss.
Spare Co-Op Spare Eng Lit (GAH!!)
Music European history Geomatics Spare
Do they not realise that if I want to go to school I need to be a full-time student? Also, my marks are going to SUCK to get into school because my english teacher kinda hates me. And if I only have co-op to balance that out with (i'll get a 90 something for sure) it's going to be wayy weird. Oh man! Do I ever hate my guidance counsellor.

She's only teaching grades 9 and 10 right now, and her and Panagokas are doing this full day program for kids who are at risk of failing. I had her for grade 11, though, and she wasn't bad. Huge mix-up at the end, she told me to fix a lot of stuff in an essay, then when I got it back with was all revised again to say what I had originally. I had Sudak last year and thats who I have again, so hopefully I'll do better.

That just really sucks...And I know what you mean, guidance is quite terrible at MPSS. Hopefully Sudak has warmed up to you since last year... Haha, Panagokas and Nesbitt always make my laugh--they actually convinced everyone that there were brother and sister. It's quite hilarious. Sorry off topic. Good luck with everything! At least you have a good music teacher ;)

I totally do...Are you from the era of Mrs Smith or Mr Schatz? I was in the middle of both - Mrs Smith left after my grade 9 year. They still have all their grade 9 or 10s convinced, they do it every year. Mr Panagokas is my favourite history teacher, he's so awesome. I was so glad when I found out I had him for European history as well!! Guidance does suck, but now Mrs Duff is leaving to go on maternity leave. We still have Tilly, though, so that's one huge down strike. Oh well.
