true, unlike English (which imho, is purely subjective depending on the teacher), Math courses tend to be objective some teachers however, have favorites that he/she's more inclined on giving lenient marks (ex. make a (-/+) symbol mistake in the first step of a long equation, doesn't penalize you on rest of the equation). a good relationship with the teacher can't hurt you or your marks. However objective the subject may be, people are not. Learned that the hard way in grade 9

I agree entirely. My English mark from the previous year is a 79%, no matter how hard I worked, my assignments were never good enough. This year, my mark is always around 90%. I am absolutely sure i haven't improved much. A large part of the mark is dependent on the teacher. Which is really unfair in terms of English, because all university needs it. At the same time, I don't really see a solution that will fix this problem. MATH, I CHOOSE YOU!!!I'm at Waterloo, doing Computer Science

Don't worry, all those bull crap problems don't exist at university. I know what you mean, my HS felt a compulsion against 90's.

Hi grade 11 this year. Just wondering, how much do grade 11 courses matter if you screw up in one of them (in the 70s biology) when applying to a university (the program I'm looking into is UW's Mathematics).

Well, look at it this way: Your 70 won't help you with admissions; however, only your gr 12 grades count towards the admission average next year. So if you work hard then you'll be great.

I confess, I've also been lurking for a month or two, but have just now decided to finally register. The classes I signed up for my grade 12 year are:
English 4U Advanced Functions 4U (on-line summer school) Calculus and Vectors 4U Biology 4U Chemistry 4U French 4U Challenge and Change in Society 4M
I'm dreading my two math courses because I haven't been really that great at math since middle school; my marks have been in the 82-85% range. However, I need both to keep my options open.

One of the things i was debating about if i should move from a private school to a public school, because they make us work EXTREMELY hard in my school whereas friends in a public school near by have better teachers and lenient markers, those guys try half as hard as i do and still get like high 80s. Anyway any future health sci applicants? Don't universities know which school's are hard and which school's are easy?

They may know but they don't put any weight on easy or hard schools. Besides some teachers/courses in public schools are hard and some in private schools are easy so it's hard for the university to make a sound decision.

Private schools are not easy!! I used to go to a Public school last year. I got a 97 with a good amount of studying. This year I went to a private school and got a 94 with a crazy amount of studying.

it depends on the school. My sister goes to the Emma Willard School in NY which is a HUGE step up from a place like richmond hill high.

Drop the gym class, and take another one of those courses in summer school. My suggestion is English. I took it last year in summer school and finished with a 94, after a month of eating and sleeping English (only on weekdays). You will never understand the relief of a spare till you have one (or two).

Yea, I think it's better to have taken a few grade 12 classes in grade 11, or at least one in summer school. I took three grade 12 classes already;some of the hardest. I think I'll warn everyone now about grade 12 chemistry--easily the most difficult course that I have ever taken.
So...what classes are you dreading next year?

Hi, just finished grade 11. Good thing I took two grade 12 classes this year, so next year wouldn't be so hard on me. But I definitely messed up my average for this year due to my grade 12 calculus course. Wished I didn't take it until next year.

woohoo to summer school starting Monday for me... I'll be taking English, and hopefully I'll get good marks. I took Gr. 11 English in summer school last year, and my teacher was such a hard marker, I ended with a 75% after starting with a 66% at the start of the month.
