yep you have to. if you live in apartment (bates) or suite (keyes) style you are offered the option of buying a reduced meal plan

2) are the washrooms shared and kitchen shared?
a few buildings have a bunch of single washrooms on a floor which are shared by both sexes. most buildings have large communal washrooms on each floor with lots of showers and sinks and toilets. kitchens are shared by floors in every building except in keyes and bates, where you have your own kitchen that you share with your apartment/suite mates.

3) which building would you recommend for a first year men student?
it depends, all the buildings are co-ed except for Wallingford which is all girls. Tell me about your lifestyle in terms of socializing, amount of noise you like, how big you would want the building to be, proximity to certain types of food, etc. I'll let you know some choices that might fit your needs

Mac offers many rooms types in the 12 residences. Single, double, bunk and loft (triple), and quad. Most buildings offer most of the rooms types. You will usually end up in a double or triple in first year. Unless you end up in Keyes or Bates the only way you will get a single room is if your top 6 average is 95%+ then you get a guarantee of single room.

Let me know if you have any more questions big grin

I have heard that OFF-CAMPUS is cheaper then
ON-CAMPUS ...is it true?

If yes, how is the surrounding area around mcmaster
and approximately how much will it cost per month. ?

this is generally true, especially if you are frugal about buying house supplies and food. you should go check out some apartment listings in the surrounding areas, or see if they have student off-campus living.

of course, the decreased cost is made up for by the increased effort on your part in cooking and cleaning.
