hey, i just signed up with solo and got a pretty good deal. they've got the umbeatables rite now, so for $25 (+ caller id, but not necessary): -100 anytime minutes -unlimited evenings/wknds (7pm-8am) -unlimited texts -per second billing -911 fee included, no system access, no startup fee
it's very similar to the koodo, but my phone, the Samsung 500 was only $29 or something like that including tax, which would not've been possible with the tab, and paying off a $150 tab with a $25 plan takes forever.

I text all the time. Particularly in class. Texts are useful when you can't be talking out loud but want to talk to someone. It's also perfect when bored.
Haha sure you should pay attention in class, but sometimes it's really boring. Besides I can text AND pay attention, I can't talk on the phone in a lecture and still pay attention to the prof (and not get kicked out)

From my perspective, and I'm not trying to justify sending hundreds of texts per day, but if you want to send someone a little piece of information that doesn't require discussion, or if you or they are in a situation where talking isn't really an option, a text can be easier and less intrusive than calling. By "little piece of information", I mean something like "I'll be there at 8".

I use text messages for the same reason I use a phone, to setup plans with people. It's less intrusive than calling somebody.

Do you need unlimited texting, or just texting bundles? With Virgin pre-paid and either a $0.30 per minute or $10/month + $0.10 per minute, you can get 100 texts for $5 per month (although I don't know if you can sign up for that multiple times, e.g. to get 200 texts for $10 per month, or if you can only buy it once and then pay $0.15 per text after that). You can also get 2500 texts for $10 per month, but you have to be signed up for a monthly plan other than that $10 one - you can get 200 anytime minutes OR 1000 evening/weekend minutes for $20 per month. Note that the fine print on lots of texting things caps "unlimited" at 2500. For their post-paid, you can get unlimited texts, 100 anytime, and unlimited evenings/weekends for $25 per month. Note that some things like voicemail are included in the prepaid and not really in the post-paid. That actually looks pretty similar to the Solo plan mentioned although some little things could be different, and one that definitely is is that per second vs. per minute billing would make a big difference if you make mainly short calls, but it sounds like you aren't likely to use up the minutes anyways.

Usually it's the latter, in which case from 7pm Friday to xx AM Monday morning it will be unlimited.

Virgin Mobile, $25 a month, no system access fee/activation fee and what not 100 anytime minutes 1000 minutes evening and weekends Unlimited texting
That's what I use and it's all I need... I text way more than I actually talk on the phone, and if I'm at home and someone calls, I just tell them to call me via landline if my minutes are running low.
