the cheapest mobile service- Petro canada!
prepaid plans!- $20 or $50 that expires in 180 days, or $100 that goes for $360 days .20 cents a minute local.
I don't use it much so it's perfect for me.
I used to have fido prepaid, but their minimum fill-up prepaid card is now $20, and it lasts for 30 days... so i switched! so far so good.

I used to have fido prepaid, but their minimum fill-up prepaid card is now $20, and it lasts for 30 days... so i switched! so far so good. 7-11 has a very similar service that's slightly better for super occasional use - all top ups last 365 days (as of the last time I checked at least) Virgin Mobile offers a variety of packages good for a wide variety of people but not quite as good on the ultra light/emergency usage end of the spectrum (as their basic per minute rate with no package is higher and top up expiry isn't as good). I think the "cheapest" with them is to buy the $100 card that's good for a year - $8.33 per month for about 27 minutes per month of cell service. With most of the bigger names it seems impossible to get away with spending less than $20-$30 per month - aggressive top-up expiry on pay as you go plans, "system access fees" tagged onto advertised rates, etc. And often at that rate you aren't getting some of the things included with the cheap pay as you go services, like voicemail. Of course, I think it goes without saying that the cheapest phone service for you will be one that's matched to your usage habits. Petro Canada and 7-11 offer services for light users. If you are a heavy user, stay clear. I've looked into the ultra cheap end of the spectrum as a cell phone would be handy every once in a while and even with my landline I'm not a big talker. But I'm extremely cheap ;)

Plus, earn double Petro-Points* on all airtime purchases, and redeem those points for more airtime. so do you just get them at the gas station? Does it use GSM/SIM card or is it on the same network as bell/telus/virgin?

I believe the "unlimited" plans have a limit of 2500.
And really, 5000?! That's 166 texts per day....

But "unlimited" is only 2500 a month. It's ridiculous. hah I know it's so many a day. I figure i must text in my sleep or something..

Perhaps you could ask Virgin if their unlimited texting is really unlimited. They've got a plan that, for $25 per month, unlimited text, unlimited evenings and weekends, 100 anytime minutes. MyText&TalkOr you could, you know, cut back on the crack.

I wish. No, I just seem to have this continual stream of girls in my life who really enjoy texting. So that's sort of like non stop waste of my time with 2 or 3 people. Then my guy friends. Then my mom. It all eventually adds up.

Frig, it took my six months to get my friends to start texting me rather than calling me. They kept on expecting for me to pick up the phone and answer during work...

texting is awesome.. you can talk during class/boring movies/doctor's office/etc without actually disturbing the silence.

In hate texting, talking is so much more efficent. Who has the time to text everything?
