Well, I don't know how much there is to do at McGill, but there's certainly a lot going on in Montreal. If you want to use French, it's probably better you go out and explore Montreal rather than hang around McGill as it's a very Anglo school.

Also, what summer program is this? Is it given through McGill? Can you provide a link?

I know that there's also a French program taking place at Universite de Montreal (which I'll be taking part in) in July/August.

Edit: If you go a "things to do in montreal in the summer" google, you can find hundreds of different things.

Oh man that's the best time to be in Montreal! Make sure you get some tickets for the Just for Laughs festival in July I think it is... there will be a lot of other festivals and things to do so you'll have a good time. I'm sure you'll meet a lot of cool friends at McGill also so don't worry about that. It's obviously a bit more quiet as most of the students will have gone back home but I think McGill fills up with international students such as yourself in the summer! It's a great atmosphere

I don't know all that much about McGill itself, but there's tons to do in Montreal (I live here).
Brushing up on your French would help, 'course.
There are loads of festivals and things during the summer (Just for Laughs, jazz, etc.), 'specially around the time you're coming.
Check around the Place des Arts place.
It's true that McGill is mostly English, but since it's in Quebec, there are a lot of French students that go there too.
