Interesting discussion I was having the other day about a clip i saw about how natural selection is failing and we are doomed to be full of idiots.
Think about it.
If you wanna play stereotypes, it's the hillbilly family that keeps popping out tons of kids, mostly due to sheer stupidity regarding birth control. It's the intellectual couples that don't want to have kids because of their careers, or they'd rather not have to deal with children, which ends up being drawn out until the can't have any more children, if they even had any.

Now although there are lots of stupid kids running around, riding minibikes and shooting each other with bb guns, which is where natural selection would usually kick in, our health system is so good that we can keep all the idiots alive, despite whatever they do, for the most part at least.

Because of this it seems that this will continue until the intellectual population dies out completely.

Will this be the doom of mankind?

I do agree with the first posting that natural selection is failing. There are many people still around today that would not have been 100 years ago because of the improvements to our health care and our knowledge about how our bodies work. This does have its downfall, now we are passing on diseases, hereditary problems, and our own stupidity that would not have been carried on generation after generation because natural selection would have killed them off by now. There are still a few places where survival of the fittest still comes into play. I don't know how many of you know about Darwin, but you should check of the books on the Darwin awards. For those of you who have no idea what they are about, the Darwin awards are won by people who have removed themselves from the gene pool by their own stupidity. They are great if you need a good laugh , but I would suggest that no one try any of the stunts themselves.

ya humanity will fall no matter what we do. society is just so cooped up with making excessive ammounts of money that if we don't end up physically killing everyone the environment will do it for us. i'm worried about the extreme push in blue collar jobs simply because what happens after the boom of building thats going on stops?

wow, very interesting topic, but i honestly don't care, you have your smart people and dumb people, and you have your in betweens. As long as you can survive the way you are, who cares...

my response to the first post is this:

don't direct all your faith in intelligence towards genetic brains
you should always trust the value of education, if someone is willing to pick up a book and learn, there is nothing (especially genetics) that can stop them from being an intellectual

at the same time, someone with a high IQ and brilliant parents can still be entirely arrogant, they might even think they're better than society and complain about how theres no smart people left

That's scary, I actually had the same discussion with my friends yesterday :S

theres nothing new under the sun. the world is full of moral, immoral, ammoral, intelligent, unintelligent and the works. the world isnt progressing in any direction
