I really wanted to point this out somewhere on the forum...

I got Mac's LifeSci alternate offer today in the mail as a BHSc reject

and I have to say Mac's acceptance package has been the most aesthetically pleasing one I've seen.
They went all out and put a welcome/information CD in the side of the folder (complete with a custom CD label for mac) and the whole package impressed me way too much I think. lol. I wasn't considering mac at all but wow, I think I was moved and had a sudden urge to really start considering it for a while because it felt so welcoming.

Western DID send their acceptance through Xpress Post though even if it was way back in like January... Willing to spend a bit of money for speed ;)
Theirs was okay, pretty scattered throughout though.

Queen's acceptance package was also impressive. But they had the best package for confirming your application. They were so nice that I was thinking Queen's spent way too much of their budget on these pamphlet/package things...in their little (big) customized folder envelopes..

McGill's is a little pathetic in comparison. Plain envelope, standard postage, a couple of letters, one book, one pamphlet. Boo. Stand-offish much?

U of Ottawa also sent a lot of random jazz even though I didn't apply. lol.

I just thought it was interesting how the different schools sent out their offers, etc. I was thinking a lot of the money spent on customizing packages, folders, etc could've be spent elsewhere. I mean imagine sending those out to EVERY single applicant.. but I guess all schools need to allocate a budget into recruitment and stuff.

Ranking of package impressiveness
1) Mac
2) Queens
3) Western
4) McGill

edit: By no means am I suggesting you base your decisions on what the acceptance packages look like. Lol. I think it does shed a light on how the school runs though and what they want you to think the school is like in general.

i'm not going to lie. I use those folders and portfolios for my school stuff lmao so i'm always glad to get new stuff in the mail.

Waterloo's was surprisingly nice and colourful. I would've expected grey grey grey and times new roman font 12 but it was actually colourful and had lots of nice pictures. I also had hand written notes and a card and invitations so that was extra nice to get!

the more money/fancy crap they put into the mail means (to me) that they are desperate.

that explains why mcgills invite wasn't as good as queens as they know their top notch. not that queens and western is bad or anything.

someone prove me wrongbatman

Haha yeah, I guess they have to try and win you over any way they can.
McGill's didn't feel welcoming at all but i am still choosing it :S

I found it sort of funny that U of O would send me all that stuff. They also called through out the whole of last semester asking if I had questions about the school, applying, their programs, etc. :S
I felt it was a little redundant .. I mean they're a good school. Did they really have to send me a christmas/hannukah/holiday card?

Redrose: that's smart.. I could always use university propaganda to organize my calculus notes... bwahaha.

lmao i gotta admit that before this I never paid attention to stuff like this...
but imo mac's was OKAY (I got accepted to engineering in march)...but yeah their CD was pretty fun (you click the person's head and they start talking razz) I think in terms of the overall packaging, all the schools I applied to are about the same. But Waterloo and UofT life sci used special paper smilesmile Mmmmmm special paper...

Meh. Most of them oversized envelopes are shoved into my small mailbox carelessly, and thus by the time I get them they're rarely in mint condition haha.

But yeah, I'd have to say Queen's was the best...although the weight of UofT life sci's impressed me (surprisingly heavy lol)

lol Laurier's was really light; 1 acceptance letter, 1 about program, 1 student book and 2 additional colorful papers

lol if you can't remember what the package looked like I guess it wasn't too impressive to begin with.

Queen's went all out, wow. Plus their primary colour scheme thing is eye-popping on its own.

I haven't actually played the mac CD LOL talking heads?! no way. I'm gonna run it. (do their CS kids design these or something as part of their program? geez lol)

I will. I've found that the lesser schools I've applied to had crappy packages. They desperately tried to recruit me (email, phone, invite to seminars, etc), but the quality of their acceptance package (aesthetic-wise) really did reflect the caliber of their school.

And their endowment maybe? razz

Haha wow, I am running Mac's interactive CD. I am so impressed. It's such a cool idea. (Goes along with the message "Inspiring Innovation and Discovery" that I didn't notice was on their envelope caues it was at the opening at the back)

I am so easily amused. xD

Lol yeh, and their endowment.

I personally think it's a good idea. Props to Mac if they can use CDs to attract better applicants. better quality students=more successful students=more endowment=better quality of school=more slectivity=better qaulity students. It's a healthy cycle, and personally i think no school in canada is prestigious enough to not bother with attracting better applicants using every method necessary. It's a way of advertising the school, and it works.

for me it was just a sheet of note paper (the small, yellow, lined ones)...
I'm too lazy or else I'd take a pic.

I'll take a picture tomorrow... Mine is written in a purple piece of paper... The handwritten letter is very casual and was just written beside a typed letter. lol.
