I live in Ontario, and I will hopefully be attending UBC in the fall, so that isa big move for me. I'm scared to lose the comfort of my current friends and family, but I know that I will forge new friendships and will probably be too busy to be homesick.
It is something everyone goes through at some point in their life, and it helps us grow. :]

I'm gonna be leaving Calgary for Waterloo...I feel homesick/sad just thinking about not having my mom and having to sleep on those awful mattresses, but I'm more worried about her because she's going to be all alone in Calgary . I mean she has friends/work but still...I'm gonna try my best to get my co-op jobs in Calgary so I can live at home

In my situation, i'm moving 6 hours away from home. I'm not really stressed tho. I've been living in a small town all my life, and there's wayy too much drama, probly bigger than the town. so i'm really excited about moving Also, it isn't that far away from home, and I have family that live there so it won't be that bad. I'm sure you'll be fine and you'll really enjoy it ! Stay positive

Hey I am moving away from my family that i have been living with for all my life. I was wondering if anyone has any tips at all for me because it will be 2 hours away and i am very close to them. I also go insane if i do not have any pets to hold. Haha if anyone has any advice on how to deal with stress that would be great help.

I live in Ottawa..and i'm currently trying to decide whether to go to SFU or ottawa u. each university is totally different! i'm leaning towards SFU but i don't know if i can leave home. i understand that i will make new friends and it will be a great experience but it sure is a scary thing to commit to!

I actually had a fantasy of moving away from home as child and till now. I was really hoping to attend UBC instead of UofA, so I could experience what it means to be on your own. It's bad the housing cost prevented this for me.

I'm going to school on the other side of Canada next year, so I will be a six hour flight away from my family. Although I think I'll miss everyone at home, I'm really excited about having my own room and getting to know my roommate. I think that with all the high tech stuff nowadays it'll be really easy to stay in touch. I can email, have voice or video conversations over the internet, post pictures and read what my family and friends have to say... Overall, I think living in rez will be a really cool new experience.

Is anyone going to the University of Ottawa next year? I am trying decide wether its better to buy a meal plan or make my own meals. The meal plans sound convenient, but they seem so much more expensive. Any ideas for me? Thanks.

I have another question. Does anyone know what it's like studying in residence. I am going to be in the Thompson Residence, and I am not sure how I will be able to concentrate on my studies. Is it more likely for people to be partying non-stop in residence regardless of exams coming, or is it more likely to be silent at night?

If you really like the program at a given school and it'll cost you a bit more, do what you need to do to get into that school, even if it means taking out a loan at a steep interest rate. Remember, it's your experience and your education, not your wallet's. UOIT Commerce 2012
