Yeah I found out from the other person that posted. Definitely have to fill this out. I probably won't get anything though, but I maybe able to get some money out of the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship thing.

LOL yeah so did I, just figured that some people may or may not read the post, so I decided to put it out there in big bold lettering, literally haha. I hope I can get something from them too. On the calculator thing it said I could qualify for around $7000, so I was all happy and then I got my bursary from Western (which is going to cause me to get less from OSAP), and it was so insignificant, now I'm scared OSAP is only going to cover me for like $4000 or something which in itself is huge, but in the grand scheme of things I still need to find another 12Gs.

Quote:Only postsecondary institutions that have filed information on their program costs, have met the eligibility requirements and are approved for student loan purposes for the 2008-2009 academic year will be listed. If your institution is not listed it may be in the approval process, which ends in May 2008. Please return at the end of May 2008, at which time a complete list of OSAP-eligible institutions will be available. I guess some schools haven't filed in info. Same thing with particular programs for particular schools. I will prob just wait a few days/weeks to apply.

I know for Laurier, they gave me a bursary of $2000.00. If I get anything from OSAP they said it could decrease how much I will get from the bursary. I did the aid estimator as well, OSAP says I could be entitled to receive $3000.00, once I fill out the full application though, and state the bursary amount, and other stuff, I doubt I'll get much.
I played around with it though....If you have $5000 dollars in savings, no RESP's, are planning to live with your parents, and your parents make a combined 122,000 you can get $26 from OSAP!!! lol.
On the flipside,
If you have $5000 in savings, No RESP's, and not planning to live with your parents, and your parents make a combined income of $28000, you are eligible for around $16,000

perfect for that school attire to show your spirit courtesy of osap It's a loan!!!! Lmao! But so long as you get something you could get more than the "no financial need" $100 from QEII! (yeah, doling out a loan of $26 seems ridiculously silly) Is $16,000 all OSAP/Canada Student Loan or does it include some special grants for low income families (above and beyond the grant for loans over $7,000)? The maximum OSAP has been $11,900 for some time (as I understand a ridiculously long time given tuition increases) but they may have increased it. Note that the maximum amounts in other provinces are different. Last I checked in NS it was over $13,000, but then tuition was that much higher too.
FAQ's: 1. Will I get in? See: electronicinfo.ca for Ontario schools. If you have a couple percent above the marks there and it's not looking at supplementary, the answer is almost certainly yes. 2. Anything else: Google it before asking.

But I was just looking at the bottom line lol.

so if you know that you're qualified for grants, you'd want to put everything towards OSAP right? What if you get a scholarship that's like $3000 or $5000, can you not put it towards tuition and residence, but keep it aside for future use? So you could use tuition and rez for osap?

I know that for bursaries you receive from a school they automatically credit it to your tuition fees, I don't know if it works the same with entrance scholarships.

A lot of people seem to be of the impression that you have to meticulously detail that the money you got from a scholarship went directly to paying tuition or something. It doesn't work like that. Money is money; they care that you are a student, usually full time, but that's it. It doesn't matter if $5000 from your scholarship pays your tuition while OSAP and other money pays your living expenses, or if it's $5000 from OSAP that pays your tuition while a combination of OSAP and scholarship and other money pays your living expenses, or because you got OSAP and this $5000 scholarship you go and buy $1000 in shoes. That last one is probably not a good choice, but you "could" do it. That being said, if you get a scholarship of $3000 or $5000, it would likely but not necessarily influence how much you get from OSAP. And if the scholarship is from the university, it will usually just be applied to your account with the university and you won't ever directly see the money unless it is greater than your tuition and rez and other fees.

So let's say i buy a laptop, or a tv, could that count towards osap? Then i guess i could put anything towards osap and get grants off of it.

WOAH!!! I think you have it confused. YOU don't add up all your expenses (educational and otherwise) and go to OSAP and say this is how much it's gonna cost, pony up the dough. They talk to the school you're going to, find out what tuition and other essential fees are, and if you're living on rez. Then they add up all that, subtract what they believe you and your parents should be paying out of pocket and the difference is the amount you receive, in general.

OSAP assesses your need based on a set formula. You cannot count a TV towards that assessed need, although you can count a portion of the cost of a computer towards it (I believe it's $500). OSAP's formula isn't perfect. Perhaps you will wind up with extra cash. Even if you've got extra cash I'd be very careful of your spending. You will owe that money back with interest later.
