I've already spent close to $200 in just applying to universities (gee, I wonder if the OUAC would refund that since I applied and was never really eligible to begin with ) so I don't want to put this off another year. The biggest problem with doing this though would be that I do summer school for a month, two days later leave for a military course, then have to move to Ottawa and start school in only five days. Well you were elegible to begin with, until you dropped your other grade 12 U/M level course. And that's probably what OUAC will say to you. But that course was never on any transcript or listed for my academic information on the OUAC's application review site. alys98 wrote:Also, unless I'm blind, you still haven't said whether or not your friends are in the same situation as you are?
Several people have asked you. I haven't asked many friends, but from what they've said they are not in the same situation. But information would have been sent to the universities telling them which courses you were enrolled in for the coming semester. You won't get your money back from OUAC, because they will tell you that it is your responsibility to ensure you have met all the requirements. They will also tell you, that you were enrolled to be in that math course second semester, which would have made you eligible when you first began applying for universities.

I did many hours of research and they all said the same thing. It seems I was told everything was okay, and only now (and by chance!) do I find out it's really not okay.

You did hours of research and couldn't figure this out? http://admissions.carleton.ca/applicant/requirements/on.htmlRead the first bullet. Quote:# OSSD with six Grade 12 courses at the 4U or 4M (U/C) level (prerequisite courses must be at the 4U level) # Grade 12 English 4U is recommended for all degrees # Grade 12 4U/4M credits for co-op work experience will not be considered as part of the six courses # Students are expected to present a minimum percentage grade and prerequisite average depending on the program for which they apply, see below .

We already went over this. Let's see what Carleton says and if I need to, I'll take summer school. This isn't the right way to treat a prospective student though.

Sorry, I think you're way off base. It's all about personal accountability unfortunately. OUAC isn't going to refund you and the U isn't likely to make an exception simply because it's on us to know what the requirements are. Can you imagine the can of worms that would open if they start granting exceptions for something like this? Rip a strip out of your guidance counsellor - he/she is an absolute moron! Although I have to say, every single thing I've read about admission requirements states 6 grade 12s so I'm with the ones that say, how could you possibly have missed this? I had early acceptance from three universities by Jan 15 based solely on my grade 11 marks but in every instance my acceptance letters stated what the requirements were to keep acceptance. Most of us are overloaded with school, work, volunteer hours etc. so your "extenuating circumstances" are unfortunately not that different from some of the rest of us. I took 7 grade 12 courses (one in eleven), worked 38 hours a week and volunteered as well. It's just the way it is for a lot of us these days.

Alright, so I've spoken to Carleton. They won't make an exception, although they will hold my spot if I complete a summer school course to give me the sixth credit. It won't be an easy summer, but at least I won't be putting off university for a whole year.

Well if you did choose to put off university for a year, look on the bright side, you could make lots of extra cash!

I've thought about that too. I'd love to just take the year to relax and make some money, but I also don't want to chance them questioning why I waited a year.

They won't question you! lol. They want you to come to their school if you have the grades, regardless of if your coming straight out of grade 12, you waited a year, or hell, you waited 5 years. They don't care about that.
