From what I've heard from some people, 1225 should be pretty easy because supposedly Math 030 got broken down into 1225 and 1229. For actual Calculus, 1100 would definitely be the easiest from that stream because they still go over some review of Grade 12 (looking at the course selection website).

It's not mandatory to bring a guest...you can go by yourself. My family members are going to drop me off at 9am and go around shopping for stuff to furnish my apartment, bring me lunch of some sort around ~12, leave and come back at 4. If you do bring a guest, they end up going on that parent tour which is a day long as well...unless your friend/parents are interested, it's a waste of time imo.

are you supposed to plan your schedule or have a list of what you want to take when you go there already prepared or can you go and just do it all there?

I think the schedule is pre-determined as we're split into groups (or so my friend tells me) and follow two leaders. And yup, we "should" prepare a list of what we want to take. But then they should be able to accomodate you if there are difficulties choosing the right course(s). From SAO site... Quote:To prepare for your Summer Academic Orientation advising appointment, students MUST do the following.
Students must bring valid photo ID in order to get their Western Student ID card Review course descriptions and program information in the First-Year Calendar to see the full calendar go to the Office of the Registrar's website Prepare a list of at least 8 to 10 courses you are interested in taking (keep in mind program prerequisites and elective courses) Write down any questions you may have about Western, the city of London and/or university in general.

I had my SAO today, so I can probably answer a couple questions. First off, if you don't have an idea of courses you want to take, it just makes you take longer, and cause people behind you to have their appointment pushed back. After you meet with the prof and go over your choices, you go and get your courses once overed by another group, and then you head off to timetabling where you use the CACTIS program that was talked about before, mock up your schedule to make sure there's no conflicts and then you get the chance to log into your account and enrol in the courses.
You also have a service appointment time where you can organize your Western ONE card (takes like 5 minutes to take the picture and get the card, or its ready if you've uploaded one already), and you can also pay some of your tuition since the registrars are there. The housing office is also in Elgin Hall so if you have question, you can ask there as well.
Mind you, the service appointment and counselling don't begin until after lunch, so around 12:30. Most of the morning is spent with upper year SAO leaders in your faculty and those students who are in the same faculty. You break the ice, meet a few people, and go over what to expect heading into university, and can ask questions etc. I was going insane with the waiting times, but the leaders did a decent job in killing time while we waited.
After all is said and done, you are an official Western student. Can't wait til September now!!!!!

Wow! You had a really early SAO. I've been doing some online registration but I found one of my once-a-month tutorials conflicts with a class so now I'm at a loss. Wish I could go to SAO and ask them questions directly too (it's hard to phone them for counseling because I'm never home during their office hours...time difference!) So I suppose the CACTIS program is still alive; but not accessible to students on our own? How beautiful was the campus? I'm so excited for the old buildings (oh boring Calgary architecture). CACTIS is still alive in their systems I guess, but I haven't noticed it anywhere else since they took it down. I wanted to go in for my SAO early to make sure I got the exact classes I wanted (success!!!), and I'm glad it's over. As for the campus, this was my third visit, and everytime I go in, fall in love a bit more. The campus is so close and small, yet all the green space around doesn't give it that prison compound feel. I love walking around the campus, it's actually refreshing, and re-energizes you.

I love you for saying all those nice things about the campus; on the most superficial level I pick my unis based on campus (hence, when I was in wee grade 9 and didn't know a thing about university, I ranked Queens, McGill, Western and Toronto as the best). I'm really excited to get to actually go walk around campus; glad to hear that it's "small" but not. UWO 2012

mango, when you go, you will go to sign in and receive your itinerary. On your itinerary they will outline the schedule for the day, and at the top, there will be a section that has your name, student number, appointment time(academic counseling), where your appointment will be, and a services time (Western ONE card, paying tuition etc), so it's already booked for you. If it ends up that you have time to kill before your appointment, you could always drop in and see if you can get it done before.

No I haven't been to UBC, but I'm not a fan of the Vancouver rain. Plus, I like really really really old style buildings.... XD

It's pretty cut and paste. Call them ASAP! Don't put it off any longer, you'll only end up hurting yourself. Have you checked if you're able to register for courses online by yourself?
