do any current university students have a problem with this? well a problem is that roommate has classes at 8 and you have classes at 11 and his alarm goes off first every day.

whats are some other problems with double rooms?

I think I'm going to have totally the opposite problem. I am a really heavy sleeper. Seriously, blow a fog horn in my ear and I won't even budge.
Alarms have never worked for me. I'm trying to train myself to wake up with the alarm. I just hope I get this down in time for uni. worry Ah well, not much
I can do about it

u can put ur cell on vibrate, then put it under your pillow so u can wake up without having the sound wake up ur roommate. but i guess it won't work if ur a really heavy sleeper.

my worry is my roomate snoring. periodic noise just drives me insane. (yes i know earplugs are the answer)

^ No way... because I had 10:30 class M-F in my second semester of first year, I woke up at like 9:15 every day. At first, I set my alarm for that time, then I would consistently wake up at like 9:14 right before the alarm would ring, and I would be able to turn it off before it started beeping and also woke up my roommate (who always had later classes). It was f'ed.

My roommate had no problem sleeping past the alarm; on the rare occasions that it woke him up, he would be back to sleep in minutes.

hahaha same here
my alarm usually wakes my mom up (who's sleeping inthe other room) before it wakes me up....so if she sees that I don't get up after a while and the alarm just keeps going, she wakes me up instead.
so...i guess my alarm is for my mom. so that she can wake me up.

As others have said, you have to live with it. They are going to make a certain amount of noise in the morning. Personally, while the alarm would wake me up, I find it fairly easy to get back to sleep in the morning like that.

Assuming you aren't planning on being single the rest of your life, learning to fall back asleep when someone else gets up before you is a good skill smile

How do you learn to sleep? Because sometimes the more I want to sleep the more I can't sleep.

Yep, same here. My mom wakes up and gets me up at 7am for school.
I have been waking up earlier though. We recently got a new puppy who barks to go outside early in the morning (around 5:30-6). Now I always wake up early in anticipation, just waiting for him to bark. *shakes head* I do not like it at all. Especially on weekends.

since your class schedule isn't likely to start at the same time every day (for example, last semester I had two early mornings, two afternoon starts and one day off) it can mess up with your sleeping habits. especially if you go out mid week (bad habit but OH so much fun!!). I was in a double for my first year and my roomie and I had complete opposite schedules. We both had alarm clocks and it was inevitable that one would wake up when the other's alarm clock went off. But after a couple days you get used to getting back to sleep. Just be considerate if you're the first to get up and close the door lightly when you leave and save phone convos for when you're out the door.

I'm a super light sleeper, so I slept with ear plugs in every day but still heard my alarm clock (as well as my roomies') through the ear plugs and woke up when I needed too.

It's something you either adjust to or you lose sleep over. That sounds harsh, but it's true... you can't ask your roommate to skip his morning classes all the time, and while he may be able to change his alarm clock settings so that it disturbs you less, that may not always be possible. The flip side is that often I was so tired that I was able to fall right back asleep after my roommate's alarm went off. If all else fails, invest in some good quality ear plugs, or get used to the idea of being a morning person.

With my schedule for next year I should be able to sleep in a little bit most days:
Start times:
Monday: 12:30 pm
Tuesday: 10:00 am
Wednesday: 12:30 pm
Thursday: 8:30 am
Friday: NO CLASSES! Yippee!

So, yeah, Thursday right now is my only concern with my "alarm clock problem"

haha...YES! Arts! big grin

Though
1)Snoring doesn't bother me, and when I'm tired I almost, *almost* like the rhythm of it.
2)Alarm clocks are a non issue since I either sleep in right thorough them, or wake up and fall back asleep right away (I love that feeling actually smile)

I have a Star Wars Naboo Starfighter alarm clock since around 2001... I wake up to R2-D2, Anakin, the Star Wars theme, and blaster sounds, EVERY MORNING embarrassment
