We have a huge fitness center complete with an indoor running track, a couple pools, full cardio theatre and olympic weight training equipment, squash courts, and three aerobics/dance rooms.

Our gym is really awesome except it gets ridiculously crowded during january/february (stupid new years resolutioners). It only costs around $80 for an 8 month membership to the whole gym but access to the running track and the pool is included in tuition.

WLU has nice facilities but they're very busy. It's a pain to wait for stuff but if you go at the right times it's not that bad.

Western's one right now is pretty decent, but the new rec centre being built (to be finished in the Fall) should be kick-butt.

I don't know if they will charge more with the new facility, but right now it only costs $5 for the whole school year. No one really uses dorm gyms.

And yeah, I'm pretty sure all gyms get crowded around January. I never thought people were so hardcore about new year resolutions... obviously not hardcore enough because the number of people dropped significantly just a few weeks after New Years. lol

How many gyms are at Western? Do they have enough squat racks? Do you always see noobs curling in the squat rack because that really pisses me off

The new rec. centre at Western looks like it's going to be nice. The other gym that I saw wasn't all that great, but it was big enough still. The football team's weight room is really impressive.

There are a few gyms at Western, but there is only one (that I am aware of... there might be ones at Huron, Brescia, and King's that I don't know of) that students who aren't varsity athletes can use. The one right now has three squat racks, and, no, you don't usually see noobs curling in the squat rack. There are plenty of other places noobs (and others) can use to curl... one thing's for sure is that there are plenty of weights (dumbbells and plates) available (one guy, the strongest guy in the gym, is easily able to get eleven 45-pound plates per side on the leg press), although it does get tricky when you go upwards of 60 pound dumbbells (between 60 and 100 there are only 2 pairs of each weight in five pound increments)... but that usually isn't a problem. Regardless, I only imagine that the new gym will have more weights and more squat racks. I don't know what they plan on doing with the current gym...

Just to make sure you know, Waterloo has two other fitness centres. smile The PAC and Columbia Ice Fields, which are the two main gyms. I don't think the one at REV would be used by anyone above 1st year.

Personally from all the schools I've visited, UofT has the best fitness/athletic centre. They're also building a new one for varsity athletes which is supposed to be state of the art.

I was at Mac's gym a few times for swim meets and their facilities are soooooo nice. Olympic size salt water pool <3 Brand spankin' new! Their gym + squash courts, rock climbing wall are all very tempting

Queen's has one apparently but is currently not so good. But a new one is under construction atm. My tour guide said it was pretty much nonexistant but my friends there say they've used it pretty regularly.
Western's is also meh, nothing really special, but they are also getting a new one
McGill's is the biggest one I've seen so far smile Not so new but they've got an indoor gym and track field + a huge gym and pretty much facilities for anything you can think of.

If it matters, McGill's gym is also where your semester-end exams will be. I have thus lost affection for it.

the current queen's facility is alright, but the weight room is kinda sketch, cuz it's in the basement, and kinda dingy.
They're building a new one right now, and it says it should be done by this fall, but I kind of doubt it, based on what i saw when i saw it (may 3).
I'm sure it'll be done by the time we're in second yr though.
