Do you have any suggestions on places I should check out or things I should look for tomorrow that will help me get a better idea of the campus and the university? I would check out the SBE & Peters building because you'll have a lot of classes in there. Definitely check out a few residences, especially because it will help you decide where you want to live. Obviously the Dining Hall, Fred Nichols Campus Center, and the Athletic Complex are good places to check out as well. The new Co-op & Career Services Building is a nice building to take a walk through also. One thing to keep in mind is that the atmosphere at the school is likely very different in the summer than during the school year. yeah, it really was different in the summer- so deserted. i was there for a business conference this past weekend, and there was like no one there haha. but i still loved the campus. i thought the peters building was kind of ugly though. we had to stay in one of the classes upstairs and it was like a maze up there! but the business building is really nice, shiny floors! also, what residence would you recommend? i'm trying to choose between king and bricker? i think with a single room i can meet more people, so i'm leaning towards king, but my dad doesn't want me to live there because of the distance to the campus/SBE building. what do you think? Were you at the conference run by The Link by chance? King St. is like a 5 minute walk to the SBE building. I have like a 15-20 minute walk to the SBE building since I'm off-campus now. Not a big deal at all. Between Bricker and King, it comes down to what you want. Bricker has a common area shared with a few roommates whereas King St. has a single on a floor with a bunch of people. Personally I would go with King because I find that Bricker isn't as inviting for people to just pop into your room since it's more like an apartment. yeahhhh! i was, were YOU? because that'd be totally cool and weird at the same time haha. No, but I have an affiliation with The Link in the past (don't want to get into details for privacy reasons). Did you enjoy it? Any good speakers this year?

Finance is a huge field, and basically every BBA student eventually becomes "management". OK, I mean each business school has their own specialism, for example, Ivey is Finance, Shulich(WLU and UW) is Accounting, like you said, big 4 like to recruit accounting student from WLU My question is do you think WLU also specialize in finance and human resource???

WLU is a fine place to go for both Finance and Human Resources. Human Resources doesn't tend to be a very competitive field and I think you'll find that landing a job in HR will have little to do with where you got your degree from. Finance, on the other hand, tends to favour certain schools. I would say Ivey and Queen's are the elite for investment banking, sales & trading, etc. where as WLU, UofT, Schulich, etc. are all a bit less recruited. All in all, I would just go where you think you would enjoy the most, as the differences between the major business schools tend to be overstated in terms of recruitment opportunities.

Well up until this summer, I was 100% set on doing the whole investment banking analyst thing for 2 years then private equity for the next 2 and then go get my MBA down in the states.
But I’ve been interning at a pe fund this summer and the business is just too sick. So I will still go for banking next year for now but if I somehow get the opportunity to work at a good lbo fund next summer, I may opt for that instead.
How about you?
I'll likely be pursuing both S&T and IB, but I'm not 100% sold in either direction yet. I'll likely be looking at a few other areas as well, especially with the way the market is right now. Trying to brush up on my interview skills right now as well as completing the CSC (mostly out of personal interest). Do you see yourself as a "markets guy" or a "deal guy"? Do you want to do a bunch of small deals each day or commit yourself to one long one over a couple months. After you choose a path, it would be a good idea to start reaching out to your school's alumni a bit this summer. You can pm me anytime if you want help tracking these guys down or need help approaching them.

GSP wrote:Does anyone know what a 10.5 GPA in Laurier is equivalent to in terms of percent? Hey i've asked this question to Leg(one of our forum members) here: Quote:Hey GGG,
I'll try my best to answer your question. The way GPA is calculated, you take a look at each mark individually (as in percentage or letter grade), and then convert it to the 12 gpa scale. You take each of these individual points and THEN average them. There is often a misconception with Canadian students on how this is calculated where they think you find your percentage average first and convert that. This is incorrect.
Anyway, a 10 is an A- and a 11 is an A. This means a majority of your marks would have to be in this range. Average doesn't perfectly corspond with the 4 or 12 gpa scale, but I would say something in the range of 82-86 depending on how much your marks vary (i.e. one low mark can really screw it up). Personally, I found this very easy to do. I ended up getting 9 A+ and 1 A in first year. This varies from people to people. There are lots of double degrees who are very intelligent and can pull off marks similar to mine and even higher. However, I'd say that a great chunk of DD's are also not capable of getting anything higher than C's or B's consistently. All of us had respectable marks coming out of high school of course, but some are better at the university style of learning than others. Anyway, I'm sure you are an intelligent person yourself so you shouldn't have much of a problem with 10.5 gpa as long as you put the amount of effort right for you. Marks aren't even that important, so as long as you have something respectable (like a 10.5), you'll be set at landing interviews for top jobs.

GSP wrote:Does anyone know what a 10.5 GPA in Laurier is equivalent to in terms of percent? 12 = A+ 11 = A 10 = A- So a 10.5 is between an A- and an A. So likely about 85% or so.

I checked my ouac today and I received an offer for Honours Business Administration - WATERLOO campus.
I have an 86% average and I submitted my abs form.
I'm kind of confused though, I'm certain this is a deferall to the waterloo campus? Correct me if I am wrong.
