Tragedy!

It's 1 am and your finally finished your paper. The cafeteria is closed, and ur stomach is rumbling like you haven't eaten dinner...oh wait...you DIDN'T eat dinner. You had a late lunch, but that was at 3 pm. All you can find is some random unclaimed apple (who knows how old it is) in the back corner of the dorm fridge. What to do?

My dorm areas only have a fridge, sink, microwave, and electric kettles (if brought by students). What are some good, filling recipes that are simple to make, and don't require a stove?

I know of a few:
-Popcorn
-Rice cakes with melted cheese on top
-Cereal

Any more ideas?

You can try making tacos w/ refried beans. The beans come in a can and are already made...
you just need a microwave to heat them and maybe add some salt or salsa for taste. Add some
lettuce and sour cream and you're set! Pre-cut salads are also kewl if your in a hurry. If you
have a blender, you can make juice w/ a lot of cut strawberries and a little tropicana orange juice.
It takes like two minutes and tastes great, plus it gives you a boost of energy when you're studying!

another option is to cook a big batch at a friend's apartment, and freeze it.

Unhealthy too.

But who am I to say? The pizza delivery guy knows me by name. wink

And with exam time now nearing an end (tomorrow at 10 for me and all my roommates), I think we are all getting tired of Pizza Pizza pizza... in fact, we have five pizza boxes sitting in our recycling.

My housemate ordered pizza for two weeks straight, I kid you not.
I came home to Toronto in between exams and when I went back to my apartment, in the recycling were 12 pizza boxes.

I am just glad to be back home, free of studying, and able to eat non-fast-food food. I know I can easily get tired of fast food and even pizza. I would think most people would be the same way but apparently not. Two weeks straight is pretty redic.

Cheesestrings? Who are you?

And if you don't have milk, cereal tastes just as good dry. Kids cereals, at least.

If there's a freezer attached to the fridge (which most/all fridges have, to my knowledge?), get some frozen meals/snacks that can be microwaved. They're not all exactly nutritious, but they're filling and can be pretty cheap, especially if you avoid the brandname products in favour of the store-brand equivalent.

it's everyones responsibility to take care of themselves once they're in university or college and away from home.
As such, ordering fast food and eating convenient high-fat foods is silly- most students don't have time for a consistent exercise regime, which means that healthy eating is a must.

try anything along these lines and you won't go to bed feeling sick on pizza grease or a sugar rush:

-keep a bowl of fruit in your room, like bananas, apples, etc, that don't need refrigeration
-go out and buy canned tuna and salmon and dig into it with rice crackers or something similar- protein is the most filling food you can consume
-bring in a toaster and keep bread in the freezer or something- you can then make sandwiches, toast, and so on
-healthy frozen meals can oftentimes suffice, if you look at nutritional information.

and so on. Healthy eating is linked to higher marks and a better quality of life. Fooling yourself into fast food convenience will only toll on your time when you want to lose any of that gained weight.
