yeah jus go to the library, my sister used to hate the idea of going to the library (before she went to uni) but only wen she got to UWO did she realize that EVERY1 goes to the library to study. UWO ppl hav a reputation of partying hard, but the majority of them study hard as well. now going to the library for my sister is a habit cuz its easier to concentrate in the library than in ur own room.

and y wouldnt u want to party in college? lol. u hav ur entire life ahead of u to work, college is a time to let loose, and study hard of course (u gotta learn how to balance and manage ur time), but if u miss out on college parties and u finally get a job, ur gona realize how much u've missed and its not really sumthing u can get back to. SEIZE EVERY OPPORTUNITY IN LIFE and that includes partying.

wooow, that statement is sooo overrated >.< . Yea let me just seize the opportunity to jump of this bridge =] ..... I mean if everyone else does it and it seems cool and fun, why not???

Listen partying isn't super bad to an extent. Drinking your life down in college, many people seem to forgot how many people have substance abuse and addiction. And how does this start... oh right trying it at a party. And if you want to do good in uni, study and also maintain normality (hanging out with friends, exercise) . Hey, there are other ways to have fun and have a memorable college experience other then partying , so there is no need to encourage partying for the sake of fun.

yeah i agree with u, there's definitely more ways to have fun other than partying, but college parties will be different from any parties u will ever go to after college. btw, i never said anything bout drinking your life down in college. You don't even need to drink to have a good time at parties big grin I have a friend who's sikh and she never drinks but she parties. shes really rich and she booked out clubs to host her non-drinking parties and people still have a blast. and just cuz there's no alcohol it doesnt stop people from attending, the club is soo packed its still pretty awesome.

well parties are frequent in all residences (including London Hall) during the first three months of school. but then when everyone gets back form Winter Break, they all just cool down and focus more on the studying. you are likely to find batches of parties in the first three months and the last two weeks before exams.

however, the parties in general appear to be highly overrated from what I`ve heard from my friends and from going to them myself. it is pretty much hit or miss when you hear about a party going down that:
a) doesn`t get shut down by RA`s if its very overwhelming, like 1000+ guests
b) turns out to be a dud because of terrible male:female ratio, or crap planning in terms of themes, music, space and so forth

not gonna lie, there are some decent parties if you can get to them. however when people turn 19+, they are most likely gonna have decent pre-parties at their residences and then head out as a group to clubs or bars downtown.

so concisely put, I wouldnt worry too much about the partying.

I'm ranking Saugeen 2nd. Is it really as bad as everyone says it is - in terms of partying 24/7? frown

While Western may have a rep for being a party school, you will OBVIOUSLY find people who don't party. There are people of every type at every uni...
Also, for people preaching "Queen's", I know people that go there and Queen's is quite the party school as well. Ironically, both schools are ranked very highly, so they obviously have people who party but know how to balance studying too.

If you want to go to UWO don't let it's party rep hold you back. There will be plenty of people who won't want to party all the time

Every school parties, and it's a fact. And if you're a non-partier, I"m sure people will have the decency to respect you and not hammer your door and demand you come out and drink until you can't stand it anymore. It's possible to have clean fun and balance school and a social life, all depends on what you choose to do in your spare time.
All in all, I don't see why a party rep should be driving anyone away (I always thought it was more a parent's thing), and most likely, your perception of partying will change after a couple months/weeks in res.

to all UWOers SEE YOU GUYS AT WESTERN : ) : )

Just hope to god that you don't get put in Saugeen.
Try to get into a suite style res, or one of those scholar floors where everyone studies. I'm not sure if those are possible, but thats what ive read in other forums.
Good Luck

Nobody's going to hate on you for not partying. It's the people who are anti-social, hide in their rooms all day, and wont even make the effort to smile or look at you when you pass by them in the halls who people don't like. So as long as you're a somewhat cool person, you'll be fine. And most people who said that they don't drink at the beginning of the year usually change their minds..

Also, I wouldn't recommend scholar floors, ie. quiet floor. From what I've seen, they're (generally) filled with socially awkward people who are kind of weird. Just pick a normal floor..rez is pretty quiet once exams come around. The people on my floor who party the most are always the ones in the study rooms.

Not everyone partied. Some people were soft. I'd say on Friday and Saturday nights, 75%+ of people, as long as they didn't have an exam, were boozing and having a good time though.

LMAOOOO, so true about quiet floor, for the most part. I met some cool people form there though. To be honest, most of the quiet floor was Asian people.
The people who party are everyone. It's a hard school, just because you go to the library or study all day doesn't make you a loser. You need high marks, everyone is smart (book-wise), you just gotta find the work-life balance. It comes.
