Hey everyone,
I'm at Mac and staying in McKay this year. And I must say McKay is pretty sweet. There are lots of single bathrooms on a floor, so you never have to wait, the rooms are huge compared to the typical rez room and the people are great...oh and there's a pool table in the basement! But in all honesty, don't worry too much about which rez you're in. It's the people that make it great, not where its located, the bathrooms or the size of the room. And for anyone with roomie anxieties, I feel for ya! I was so nervous about living with a stranger, but after a very, and I stress the very, short period of awkwardness you get used to each other. My roomie and I get along great, of course there are some times when we need space from each other, but that's to be expected when living with anyone. Anyways, I hope you all have great rez experiences, and you'll make tons of friends, so just let loose and have fun! Oh and study sometimes too ;)

I'm thinking Brandon, Woodstock (SNOOPY!!!), or the others near Commons building. Since I'm going for Business hopefully it is closer to the area of campus. But I'm definitely gonna try for Edwards, its so cool looking. Was that the one with the Math Cafe inside?
I hope the rez stuff gets solved by the time I get my acceptance. Darn me and my regular acceptances and slacking off last semester lol.

Yeah Edwards is really good and its the closest to the business school out of all the residences. The Math Cafe is in Hamilton Hall, that's the location of the math department. That would be sweet if they had a place like that in a residence! Yeah don't worry, the second round will be coming out soon enough and the stress can go away 1 We are from Mac! 2 A little bit louder! 3 I still can't hear you! 4 more more more... Edwards look soo deceiving. I had no idea it was a residence until I visited it last March Break. I really thought it was a faculty building.

I was just looking through Maclean's and under what's not hot, it says something about Mac having a closed door policy meaning that the rez doors have to be closed at all times!?!? Is this true? (remember hearing this somewhere else too). This must make sociallizing ALOT harder. Also, I'm going to be paying a lot of extra money to live in rez and if I can't even keep my door, it won't be worth it considering rez is all about meeting new people and such.

You mean the doors to the buildings or the rooms themselves? I understand the building doors, since that's a good way to ensure some security. When I went to visit the McKay rez at Mac, our tour guide had to dial a code on a number pad to buzz in to the rez ambassador's room so that we could get in. McMaster '12!

No I mean the doors to each room...it pretty much isolates you to your room.

Almost all universities have this rule in their residence systems because it has to do with the fire code of the surrounding municipality. I actually had the exact same concern as you before I went to Mac and it turns out it doesn't affect socializing WHATSOEVER. So don't worry and DEFINITELY don't let it influence your decision to stay in rez or not! 1 We are from Mac! 2 A little bit louder! 3 I still can't hear you! 4 more more more... Do you mean that they don't enforce it or that there's just tons of other oppourtunities to socialize...?
Thanks for your quick responses btw.

i know food is important and stuff but i was wondering about partying at mac...partying is good....as long as you can focus when u need to because i know other schools liek western for example have a huge party school rep... and its easy to get distracted and everything so where does Mac stand in terms of partying and work

On campus first year for sure. Everyone I have talked to who lived off campus said they wished they had stayed on campus at least the first year because they didn't get to do as much as if they had been in res. They still did alot of activities, but they would have rathered being on campus. My dad is the one I've talked to most about this, and he said that when he went to York he stayed at home, and felt that he missed alot of the university experience.
I'm looking forward to being on campus at Mac, residence life and meeting people will be great.

Thanks for your quick responses btw. Yep they enforce it. You make most of your friends through activities in the buildings and getting involved on campus. Having your door open wouldn't really make a difference on how many new friends you make. You're also allowed to have your door open and be talking to someone, the rule is against propping it open with a chair or other object. Don't worry about it believe me it doesn't make a difference at all 1 We are from Mac! 2 A little bit louder! 3 I still can't hear you! 4 more more more... You can always find a party when you want one, and when you want to work you can go to the library if your residence isn't a good atmosphere for working. As long as you know when you have to do work and take the initiative to remove yourself from distracting situations you'll do fine even if you're in a big party rez. 1 We are from Mac! 2 A little bit louder! 3 I still can't hear you! 4 more more more...
