Do you guys know why UofT's football team is garbage?

It started way back in the 40's or so when we were playing Queen's (@ Queen's - and we were the best two teams at the time). Unfortunately after the game, some drunk UofT students decided to start a fight and started chucking beer bottles, etc and a huge brawl broke out where 3 people were taken to hospital, etc... it was REALLY bad. The president of UofT at that time decided to close the Football team and there hasn't been a football team at UofT until 1997 I think.

We are pretty much a new team trying to make a name for itself again, however UofT is getting A LOT of sports funding (just got over 100 million to expand the varsity centre and create another large sports complex) and so with that they're trying to recruit some good talent!

I don't think that's true since UofT won the Vanier Cup in 1965...

They're actually set for QB this year. I don't like the program(I was recruited there as well), but there is no denying that they have some upcoming talent that could help them win at least a few games.

what position do you play?

First off - where did you hear that story. UofT I don't think has ever stopped the program, and if they did, it definitely wasn't only started back up in 1997. They're claiming 147 years of continuous football tradition.

And yeah, UofT is going to be getting alot of funding that will help the football team as well as other athletes get better. They're going to be building a top of the line athlete exclusive training and rehab centre, which is pretty good, and making additions to their football stadium with team locker rooms, coaches offices etc. (according to the coaches). They're trying to turn around.

It won't matter unless they improve their reputation. Nobody wants to play at UofT because it's a laughing stock right now.

Oh definitely! The one good thing that stuck out to me about UofT though was the thought that if you are on the team that is able to make the turnaround(maybe this year, next year) and win a few games, not talking playoffs yet,but just winning, the amount of exposure you would get would be ridiculous. It won't be the coaches getting the glory, because that staff has been in place for the past 3 or 4 years, so obviously people will recognize that it's the players. If you want to go pro, that is definitely something that would work out in your advantage.

However Western won me over, and there's no way I'd consider UofT. Just giving credit where it's due.

O rly?
Do you know how far he throws? I throw around 50, 40+ on the run.
I'm pretty sure whoever it is they won't be able to throw very far.

Why do so many people assume that QB is about how far and hard you can throw? That's only minor part of a greater overall package that's necessary to be a QB.
As for his stats, I personally don't know, but I think it's a new QB instead of the guy they had last year. I have heard that the new guy is supposed to be good though.
If you do think you'd make a good QB though I'd say call up the coach and try to get yourself into camp if you think you could challenge their starter. If you're just one of those "Oh I can do that, but I don't feel like it" people no one will ever take you seriously.

Yeah sorry it might have been in the 60's!!

And where did I hear the story? There was a 2 page story and long discussion thereafter within the university about the team (because we were so close to our first win in who knows how long) and they printed this story with sources.

Regardless I might have forgotten the details and exam times but it was stopped for a long time.

anyone know how rigorous practice schedules/games are for university?
I have friends playing rugby in uni, and they had like 4 practices a week and a game every saturday... so I'm kinda hesitant about joining the rugby team... plus I'm kinda small for the university team, although it was fine for high school....
Does anyone know whether there would be like an intra-mural rugby team? I know it's not exactly the most common sport, but it'd be a nice compromise.
I'm also thinking of doing wrestling, I liked the sport, I just couldn't stand the coach at all so I only finished off 1 season of it....
I'd love to join ultimate frisbee too, if that's an official team sport....

I doubt there's intramural rugby. There will most likely be intramural ultimate frisbee.

There's intramural rugby at UofT... intramural any sport you can think of (and some you can't! There's a "sport" called broomball that has it's own intramural league too! Basically get on ice without skates, and run around with a broom and kind of play hockey lol)

Broomball is sick bro, we played it outside in the winter in gym a couple of times.
Btw, is there intramural dodgeball? w/ like teams like the dodgeball movie lol?
That would also be sick.

Yeah there is intramural dodgeball (NOTE: all of these apply to UofT mostly, only because there are SOOOO many students, they offer all the sports they can to keep everyone happy - I also find because there are soooo many people that the intramurals turn out to be pretty competitive with a lot of good players in any sport. There's almost always about 20-25 teams for each sport too. They split it into 3 divisions)

Here's a list of all the intramurals at UofT (this doesn't include weekend long tournaments for other sports):

• Badminton
• Basketball
• Broomball
• European Handball
• Field Hockey
• Flag Football
• Floorball
• Hockey
• Indoor Challange
• Indoor Cricket
• Indoor Soccer
• Innertube Water Polo
• Lacrosse
• Rugby
• Soccer
• Softball
• Squash
• Table Tennis
• Tennis
• Track Meet
• Triathlon
• Ultimate Frisbee
• Volleyball
• Water Polo
